Pop star Dua Lipa is suing Samsung for $US15 million after the electronics giant used her photo on the boxes of their Crystal UHD smart TVs in the US.
The performer is claiming copyright and trademark infringement in the lawsuit, which was filed in the California U.S. District Court.
The boxes in question feature a large sticker with an image of the Crystal UHD TV with Dua Lipa’s face clearly visible in the top half of the screen.
The image that was used on the box was taken during the 2024 Austin City Limits Music Festival. Ms Lipa stated in the lawsuit that she owns the rights to that image.
The filing states: “Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever.
“Ms Lipa did not allow and would not have allowed this use.”

In the past, Ms Lipa has worked with tech and luxury brands including Apple, Porsche, Puma, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel and Nespresso. She has never partnered with Samsung.
The Samsung TV boxes in question with Ms Lipa’s image have been used in the US since 2025.
The 30-year-old singer’s legal team has reportedly made repeated demands to “cease and desist from infringing on her rights”.
The lawsuit included comments shared on Instagram where fans said they bought the TV because Dua Lipa’s picture was on the box.
