Apple has updated its Vision Pro with its powerful new M5 chip to improve performance, display rendering and battery life.
The original Vision Pro released last year had an M2 chip so the new M5 version is a huge leap forward.
And it’s available from the same $5,999 price when it goes on sale on October 22.
The M5 Vision Pro will also ship with a new Dual Knit Band for added comfort.
The new visionOS26 also adds new spatial apps and Apple Immersive content.
“With the breakthrough performance of M5, the latest Apple Vision Pro delivers faster performance, sharper details throughout the system, and even more battery life, setting a new standard for what’s possible in spatial computing,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.
“Paired with the comfortable Dual Knit Band, innovative features in visionOS 26, and all-new Apple Immersive experiences spanning adventure, documentary, music, and sports, spatial computing is even more capable, entertaining, and magical with the new Vision Pro.”
The M5 performance improvements include faster and smoother performance with the ability to handle advanced spatial and more immersive experiences.
With M5, Vision Pro now has an advanced 10-core CPU which delivers higher multithreaded performance so across the board it will work smoother and load apps and widgets faster than ever before.
Other benefits are more responsive web browsing and improved gaming thanks to the 10-core GPU architecture which supports hardware accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading.
This leaves a lot of room for developers to add even more detail to lighting, shadows and reflections in their games.
With the power of the M5, Apple Vision Pro can render 10 per cent more pixels on the custom micro OLED displays compared to the original model.
This means sharper images and crisper text and more detailed visuals.
And it also increases the refresh rate up to 120Hz so there is even less motion blur when looking at your surroundings and an even more satisfying and smoother experience when using Mac virtual display.
Vision Pro with M5 includes the purpose built R1 chip which can process inputs from 12 cameras, five sensors and six microphones while streaming new images to the displays within 12 milliseconds to provide your real time view of your surroundings.
There’s also an improvement with the battery life with the Vision Pro with M5 now delivering up to three hours of video playback on a single charge.
With the power of M5, Vision Pro developers including JigSpace are leading the way with new use cases for combining spatial computing with on device AI.
This means users can look at complex data sets using natural language and explore sophisticated objects using interactive 3D models.
The new Dual Knit Band now has a strap for the back of your head and an upper strap that goes over the top of your head to offer a more secure and comfortable fit.
The band is knitted as a single piece with a unique dual rib structure which provides cushioning, breathability and stretch.
The Apple Vision Pro with M5 is priced from $5,999 for the 256GB model, $6,349 (512GB) and $6,699 (1TB).
Preorders are now open and it goes on sale on October 22.
