If you haven’t heard of Wordle yet – you soon will. It’s a new daily word game that millions of people are playing each day. And we’ve got some tips to help you crack it even faster.

And more than three million people are playing the game every day – and sharing their results on social media.
The object of the game is to guess a five-letter word in six attempts.
Each attempt will reveal if you have the right letter in the right place or the right letter in the wrong place.
A correct letter in the right place is marked green while correct letters in the wrong place are gold.
If a letter is grey, it means that letter is not in the word.
The game has captured the attention of millions of players around the world who have been sharing their results on social media.
The posts do not give away the answer but shows the array of green, gold and grey boxes so you can see how many guesses it took them to come up with the right word.
Sounds simple, right?
It is. But there are few tips to help you get the word in as few as two attempts. Getting the word right on the first is just sheer luck – and something we’ve never seen.
We’ve cracked the word on the second attempt a few times.
So what can you do to solve the puzzle in fewer attempts?
- Try and use as many vowels as you can in your first guess. This establishes the vowels that are in and the vowels that are out and can really narrow the number of possible words.
- If a letter is greyed out it means it’s not in the word – and the keyboard will also show these letters greyed out as well as the green and gold letters. Look at the keyboard to see what letters are left to work with.
- Avoid using letters like Q, X and Z in your early guesses. Instead use more common consonants like S, T and R.
- Remember some letters can be used twice in the word so keep that in when making your guess. But if the letter is grey – it’s not in the word at all. If it’s green or gold it could be used again in another place.
- Look at the clues in your previous attempts – especially for the gold letters that are in the word but in the wrong place. Think about if the words starts or ends with those letters.
- Look for letter combinations. For example consonants like S can be used not only before or after a vowel but also with other consonants like SW, ST, SL etc. And also vowels can run together as well like EA, OU, AI, OE etc.
- Practice on any of the free Wordle apps which can be played all day long rather than once a day like Wordle.
Wordle has been purchased by the New York Time for a seven-figure sum and will remain free to play “initially”.
This suggests it might become a paid app or available on subscription in the near future.
