Sonos has unveiled a brand new soundbar that’s both wireless and smart. It’s called Beam and it can play your music, TV shows and movies and can be completely controlled with your voice.

Sonos Beam will be available on July 17 for $599 and pre-orders are now open.
The soundbar has a compact design and is ideal for small to medium size rooms and can be positioned on an entertainment unit in front of your TV or mounted on the wall below it.

And naturally, Sonos Beam, can be integrated into your existing Sonos multiroom system and controlled just as easily as the other speakers.

Sonos Beam can be controlled with the Sonos app, via AirPlay on your iOS device, through your favourite music service or with your voice.

It has Amazon Alexa onboard so you can not only control the Sonos Beam but also other smart devices in your home.

The unit is packed with full-range woofers and tweeters to handle audio across all frequencies.

It also has three passive radiators to move the air inside the compact unit and add more punch to the bass.

Also under the hood are five Class D digital amplifiers which have been tuned to match the drivers and the acoustic architecture.

When watching movies and TV shows, the new speech enhancement feature singles out the dialogue and makes it even clearer.

Sonos Beam can connect to your TV’s HDMI ARC (audio return channel) input or with an optical audio adaptor.

And the beauty of the Sonos system is the ability to create a wireless home theatre speaker system by adding the Sonos Sub and a pair of rear speakers to get the full surround sound effect.

Along the top of the soundbar are capacitive touch controls for volume, playback and microphone mute.

Sonos beams also has wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity and is AirPlay compatible so it will be recognised by Apple devices running iOS 11.4.

Set up is pretty simple – it’s just a matter of downloading the Sonos app, connecting to power and following the step-by-step instructions on the app.

Sonos Beam goes on sale in Australia on July 17 and will be priced at $599.
