Samsung Galaxy S III rumoured for April release

The Samsung Galaxy S III – the eagerly-awaited follow-up to one of the world’s most popular smartphones – will be launched worldwide in April.

The device, which most expected to be unveiled at last week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, is rumoured to be 4G compatible with a 4.8-inch edge-to-edge screen and a quad core 1.5Ghz processor, according to Tech Crunch.

It will also have an 8 megapixel rear camera, a 2 megapixel front camera and will be running the Android 4.0 operating system.

Its predecessor, the wildly popular Samsung Galaxy S II, was awarded the best smartphone at the Mobile World Congress’s annual Global Mobile Awards.

The reports of the Samsung Galaxy S III’s imminent release is based on rumblings coming from Samsung’s global marketing and advertising agency Chell Worldwide in Korea.

Leaked reports, according to Tech Crunch, show the new smartphone is on track for release before the northern summer which equates to April as the likely month of release.

Chell Worldwid planning a large campaign in the UK ahead of the London 2012 Olympics with other major markets including Australia following soon after.

The previous model – the Samsung Galaxy S II was first released through Optus in 2011 but, with 4G compatibility, the initial release in Australia through Telstra is more likely.
