Insta360 has unveiled its new flagship 360-degree camera – the Insta360 X6 – which has improved image quality, easier shooting and editing and added versatility.
The new Insta360 X6 is available now and priced at $1,049.99.
The improvements begin with the sensor, which is a dual custom Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensor, which has been developed with Sony exclusively for the Insta360 360 cameras.
This new dual design increases the sensor area by 33 per cent, which means a 4x improvement in the amount of light intake per frame.
This boost pushes the 360 camera’s image quality to a whole new standard.
Behind the sensors are dedicated AI chips to reduce image noise and produce purer night shots.
There are also a new low-light mode, which adds two ambient light sensors to reduce flicker and drag more light out of night scenes.
The result offers sharper detail, less noise, and cleaner, more accurate colour.
The device has a 2.32-inch OLED screen with 1200 nits of peak brightness so it’s easy to frame a shot even in bright sunlight.
The camera is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship 8-core 3.3 GHz 4 nm chip to offer outstanding energy efficiency, which leads to even longer battery life.
The X6 is the first 360-degree camera to offer native in-camera Dolby Vision along with 10-bit colour depth.
This is achieved by analysing dynamic metadata frame by frame to set contrast and brightness in real time for every shot so visuals are more realistic with no extra colour grading required.
There are three shooting modes with the X6, including 360 recording, unlimited gimbal camera, and wide-angle shooting. And it’s easy to switch between these modes at the press of a button.
When you hit record in the native 8K/50fps mode you are literally capturing everything at every angle.
Then you can come back and choose the best angles and reframe the entire scene.
Users can also record 4K video straight from the camera and even use the smart tracking tools that lock onto people, pets, or objects for auto-following and smoother footage.
It’s also possible to switch to single lens and shoot like a traditional action camera at up to 5K 60fps and with a170-degree wide angle.
It can also shoot 4K at 120 fps for slow motion.
Stabilisation is not an issue thanks to the 360 horizon lock, which keeps your videos steady and level no matter how far the camera moves.
On the audio side the X6 has a 360° omni-directional waterproof array of four mics.
Users can also connect two Insta360 Mic Air or Mic Pro transmitters for a more polished sound.
The 360 has also released the 360 AI editor PanoMind which can make 360 footage editing simpler and more intelligent thanks to brand new auto editing functions.
PanoMind has been trained on more than ten thousand hours of footage across common scenarios and is the first 360 native AI model to comprehend a full spherical scene rather than just a flat frame.
AI director can analyse footage and filter highlights while editing custom daily vlogs and push them directly to the Insta360 app for sharing.
Auto Edit 2.0 offers more accurate highlight recognition and more natural movement so you simply select the footage and click Auto Edit for it to do all the work.
Moments Pro is an accurate personal editor powered by AI that can integrate Google Gemini and Insta360’s 360 imaging algorithm to come up with highly stylized clips using selected keywords.
