It was 10 years ago today when the Apple Watch went on sale. Since then smartwatches have become one of the most popular tech products and allow us to track our fitness, keep an eye on our health and wellbeing and, in some cases, even save our lives.
It was April 24, 2015, when the Apple Watch went on sale in Australia after being unveiled at the iPhone 6 launch event in September 2014.
At that time Apple Watch was available in 38mm and 42mm cases.
It wasn’t until the release of Apple Watch Series 3 in 2017 that cellular connectivity was introduced.
In 2018 with the release of Apple Watch Series 4 when the screen sizes increased to 40mm and 44mm and Fall Detection was added.

That was the year the ECG app was added alongside low heart rate and irregular heart rhythm notification.
Apple Watch Series 5 in 2019 was the first to have the Always-On Display and was made for the first time from 100 per cent recycled aluminium.
Another significant boost for Apple Watch Series 6 in 2020 was the launch of Apple Fitness+ which was able to display the metrics like heart rate from your Apple Watch on the screen.
That year Apple Watch also included a blood oxygen sensor and sleep tracking.

In 2021, Apple Watch Series 7 displays grew to 41mm and 45mm – thanks to 40 per cent thinner bezels.
Apple introduced Apple Watch Ultra in 2022 – the same year as Apple Watch Series 8. Apple Watch Ultra offered a larger 49mm display and a titanium case. Apple Watch Ultra 2 was released in 2023 and continued as the latest model in 2024 when a new Black Titanium version was unveiled.

The Apple Watch Series 10 released in 2024 offered the thinnest case design and larger 42mm and 46mm displays.
The more affordable Apple Watch SE was released in 2020 and a second generation model in 2022.
We’ve also heard a few cases where Australians live were saved thanks to Apple Watch.
These include customers who received low-heart rate notifications only to discover they needed a pacemaker.

Fall Detection has also come to the rescue to many customers with the Apple Watch triggering a call to Emergency Services while sharing their exact location and messaging a nominated contact.
To celebrate 10 years of Apple Watch, Apple is encouraging users to close their activity rings to earn a special Global Close Your Rings Day limited edition award.
