Optus has announced NBN Co CEO Stephen Rue has been appointed as the company’s new CEO after an extensive internal and external international search. He will take up his new position in November 2024. Michael Venter will continue as interim CEO until Rue takes up his new position. Telstra has delayed the closure of its 3G network by two months to give customers more time to check and update their devices and ensure they are not caught out. Telstra was initially due to shut down its 3G network on June 30, 2024, and it has now extended that deadline to August 30, 2024. This additional two months gives people more time to check their devices that rely on 3G for data, voice or emergency calls. With the shutdown of the 3G networks looming, Aspera Mobile has launched two affordable and easy-to-use phones to ensure customers have a connection to loved ones and emergency services after the 3G closure. Aspera Mobile has introduced the F50 flip phone ($99) and the F48 candy bar device ($69). Vodafone has already shut down its 3G network with Telstra to follow in June and Optus in September.
