The Aiper Scuba S1 Pro is a gamechanger for pool owners who want to spend less time cleaning their pools. This not only give you that time back but it does an impressive job as well. Win-win!
You’ve heard of robot vacuums for your home and robot mowers for your yard – now there’s a robot that can clean your pool – it’s the Aiper Scuba S1 Pro.
Anyone who owns a pool will tell you that there’s a bit of work to keep it clean. And as we are heading into summer that work is only going to increase.
But with the Aiper Scuba S1 Pro you can get all that time back.
The S1 Pro is a cordless robotic pool cleaner so, unlike other automated pool cleaners, there is no pipe running out of the back to your filter box.
Instead the S1 Pro has its own removeable 5L filter box which can be easily emptied after every clean.
The unit has wide rubber caterpillar treads on each side and four sturdy PVC brushes underneath and a 4.7-inch suction port.
Under the hood is a 7800mAh battery that can run for up to three hours.
The Aiper Scuba S1 Pro weights 11.7kg but when it’s in the water it is quite nimble.
For our review we use the S1 Pro in my mother-in-law’s pool which is a decent size about 9m long and almost 3m wide.
There are several Aiper units in the range for above ground pools and for different size pools.
The S1 Pro is built to handle larger pools and that’s what we deployed in my mother-in-law’s pool.
The Aiper companion app helped us connect the unit and run a firmware upgrade and see the battery level robot.
We also created a space in the undercover pool area to charge the S1 Pro – it takes four hours to be completely recharged.
When it was ready we placed the robot on the surface of the water and watched it fill up with water and slowly sink to the bottom.
After a couple of seconds, the Aiper Scuba S1 Pro got to work. It is powered by four brushless motors
The pool that day was pretty dirty with leaves, sand and other debris on the bottom as well as green stain on the pool walls.
The S1 Pro churned through it all with ease.
Like a robot vacuum in your lounge room, the S1 Pro sucked up all the stuff off the bottom and deposited them into the onboard filter basket.
But what amazed us was the robot’s ability to climb the walls and clean up the green residue that has built up there.
It has impressive suction at 100GPM – that’s how it can grip the side walls all the way to the surface.
In fact it would come up the side wall and even break the surface like a whale and then sink again to continue on its way.
Aiper says it can actually climb pool walls with slopes up to 115-degrees.
So the S1 Pro is cleaning from the very bottom of the pool all the water to just above the waterline.
It uses flow control and four infrared sensors to find its way around your pool and it managed to navigate around the drains and other obstacles.
And it’s really easy to see where the Aiper S1 Pro has been – it left an obvious clean trail behind it.
It was very satisfying to watch – the same way you’d watch a high pressure hose return concrete and pavers to their original colour.
When it finishes the Scuba Pro S1 will rest on the bottom of the pool, and you can then use the included hook that fits on the end of your pool pole to retrieve it.
Lifting the unit from the bottom was easier than we thought – its buoyancy helped come to the surface.
The task now was grabbing it when it’s within reach and dragging up over the edge of the pool.
At this point all the water drains out of it and you can then it’s light enough for most to carry it back to the charger.
The adaptor is not waterproof so you need to charge this inside out of the weather.
If you don’t have a power point under cover near the pool you need to carry it over to one.
What you could do is connect an extension cord and charge the Scuba S1 Pro beside the pool before you secure it under a cover near the pool filter so it’s within reach when it’s time for another clean.
The companion app is hardly required – we found all you need to do is check the battery level and adjust the setting so it can choose your cleaning mode – we left it on cleaning the floor and walls in the one clean.
You can choose just the floor and just the walls if you want.
Overall the Aiper Scuba S1 Pro was easy to set up, easy to use, easy to charge and it did a great job.
So much so my mother in law now doesn’t need to pay someone to look after the pool for her anymore.
The Aiper Scuba S1 Pro is priced at $1,799 – but we’ve seen it is currently on special for $1,439.
