DJI is already well-known for its drones, cameras and gimbals and it is already making a name for itself with microphones and its latest offering – the DJI Mic Mini – will consolidate its reputation.
DJI Mic Mini certainly lives up to its name – it is tiny and light yet still offers impressive audio and transmission quality for content creators.
“DJI Mic Mini packs unbelievable sound into an incredibly compact, extremely light package, bringing the high-quality audio expected from DJI in a mini microphone at a modest price of $245,” said Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI.
“Content creators can count on capturing remarkably dynamic, crystal-clear sound, no matter the environment, and will enjoy the wearability and utility of DJI Mic Mini.
“DJI continues to serve the wide audience of creators with the highest level of innovative tools, from providing filmmakers with Emmy-winning Inspire drone technology and the Ronin cinematography ecosystem to today’s launch, bringing premium audio capture to all levels of content creators.”
DJI Mic Mini weighs just 10g – that’s less than half the weight of DJI Mic 2.
Each mic is about the size of the tip of your thumb and can be worn discreetly on your clothes with a clip or the magnet.
DJI Mic Mini really elevates the audio quality of content captured with a smartphone.
It really opens up the creative possibilities.
The difference between audio captured by the smartphone and through DJI Mic Mini is clearly noticeable.
The DJI mics offers cleaner audio with no echo and makes it possible to be heard clearly and distinctly even when you are metres away from your phone.
Incredibly, the DJI Mic Mini can transit audio from up to 400m away while reducing interference so it can be used at a large outdoor event.
It offers omnidirectional recording despite its small size and the receiver can be paired with two mics at once to capture audio from multiple sources while maintaining the same high quality.
There’s also two-level noise cancelling technology built-in so even when filming in loud environment and outdoors the audio is still crisp and clear.
You can also attach the included windscreens to take down the ambient sound even further.
And when used indoors it can also cut out things like fan and air conditioning noises.
Also onboard is automatic limiting which kicks in if the audio input is too high so it can prevent distortion.
DJI has two versions of Mic Mini – single mic and dual mic – and it also includes a receiver which has a USB-C plug to ensure compatibility with the latest iPhones and Android smartphones.
DJI Mic Mini also works with cameras, computers and tablets.
The receiver can be connected to a camera via the included 3.5mm TRS audio cable.
And it’s all housed in a compact case which not only stores the mics and receiver but also keeps them charged as well.
The case can power up to 48 hours of use and a quick five minute charge will offer an hour of use.
Naturally DJI’s Mic Mini also works with other DJI products thanks to OsmoAudio which can create a direct wireless connection between DJI products and smartphones.
Users can connect the DJI Mic Mini to the Osmo Action 5, Osmo Action 4 and Osmo Pocket 3 without a receiver.
DJI Mic Mini also has Bluetooth onboard so it can connect directly to smartphones wirelessly without the need for a receiver and capture audio with third party filming apps.
It’s also possible to connect the DJI Fly app to the DJI Neo drone and DJI Mic Mini via Bluetooth so you can record audio with your drone footage.
This gives users the option of eliminating propellor noise and adding a clear audio track while shooting your low altitude videos.
