LG is taking its leadership in OLED technology to the next level with an impressive 2020 TV line-up that includes 14 new models including the art-inspired Gallery series that can be mounted flush to the wall like a painting.
Unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the LG OLED TV line-up also includes 77-inch and 88-inch Real 8K models.
Apart from stunning picture quality, the LG OLED TVs also deliver upgraded performance and AI-powered features that will make your movies, sport and games look better than ever before.
LG has also unveiled an upgrade range of its NanoCell LCD TVs that are also available in 4K and 8K.
The new LG TVs – both OLED and NanoCell – are powered by the advanced Alpha 9 Gen 3 AI processor which offers upgraded performance, artificial intelligence and deep learning to improve the viewing experience.
Another major improvement with the LG TV range is design.
Case in point is the new minimalist LG Gallery Series – available in 55, 65 and 77-inch sizes – which has an ultra-thin form factor that mounts flat to the wall with a 2cm thickness.
Tech Guide took a hands on look at the TV and found the TV was the same thickness on the wall as the width of a US quarter.
The result is a TV that looks more like a work of art than a wall-mounted TV.
The Gallery GX is also joined in the OLED range by the LG OLED WX Wallpaper TV (75-inch and 65-inch) and the LG Signature OLED R (65-inch) which made its debut at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show but is slated for release worldwide in 2020.
The LG Real 8K TVs are called real because they easily exceed the strict requirements of the Consumer Technology Association’s (CTA) official definition of 8K Ultra HD TVs.
Available in 77-inch and 88-inch, the LG 8K OLED models also surpass the CTA’s measurement criteria recommended by the International Committee for Display Metrology and among the first to earn the new CTA 8K Ultra HD logo.
There are six Real 8K models in the 2020 LG NanoCell TV line-up.
On top of the deep blacks of the LG OLEDs, the TVs now also feature Dolby Vision IQ and an all-new Filmmaker Mode.
Also onboard is Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos sound.
The new Filmmaker mode presents movies in the way Hollywood intended and, not surprisingly, has been supported by leading directors.
In this mode, the TV disables some effects like motion smoothing, noise reduction and image sharpening so the film retains its aspect ratio, colours and frame rates and original vision of the director.
LG’s OLED TVs have also been recognised with a Hollywood Professional Association Excellence in Engineering award as Hollywood’s leading reference consumer display for use in content production.
The LG webOS smart TV platform has also been significantly improved and now incorporates some of the most popular content providers including Netflix and Disney+.
New for 2020 is the Apple TV app so customers can subscribe to Apple TV+ and Apple TV channels as well as access their iTunes video library and buy or rent from a catalogue of more than 100,000 films and TV shows.
The Apple TV app will also be available for 2018 and 2019 LG TV owners.
The LG 2020 TVs also have deep voice control integration which can be used to look for and ask about content but to also find information and control smart devices in the home through an on-screen dashboard.
On the gaming side, the LG 2020 TVs are also built for serious gamers looking for a high-quality and seamless big-screen experience.
12 of the LG 2020 OLED TVs offer NVIDIA G-SYNC with a variable refresh rate and fast response time.
This means there is no screen tearing or other distracting visual artefacts. It also has a low input lag that exceeds that found on dedicated gaming monitors.
And if you love sports the LG 2020 OLED TVs offer a viewing experience that’s as realistic as being at the game thanks to the 120Ghz response time that’s made possible by the Alpha 9 Gen 3 processor.
Viewers can also set up sports alerts to keep track of your favourite teams and their schedules and get live score updates.
In Australia, LG says this feature will be extended to NRL and AFL so fans can stay up to date with their supported teams.
