MOVA is thinking outside the square with its lineup of new products with smart devices and a robot lawn mower and robot pool cleaner that both have robotic arms and hands.
Tech Guide visited the MOVA booth at IFA in Berlin and in the centre was a demonstration space for its robotic arm technology.
It performed a series of moves to prove its dexterity including picking up small glass jars and gently placing them back onto a flat surface.
It also picking up a couple of balls that were balanced on a short stand and swapped the over to the opposite stand.
The hand on the end of the arm is double-jointed so the fingers can bend either way to make it easier to manoeuvre and hold two objects at the same time.
The robotic arms on the robot lawnmower and robot pool cleaner are designed to pick up larger objects and debris that may be in the cleaning path.
The end of the robotic arm can be changed to either a claw or a hand, depending on what’s required.
MOVA also has a robot pool cleaner which has an AquaSonar underwater communication system so users can check and control the robot while it’s underwater where Bluetooth and Wi-Fi can’t reach.
An additional extra for the MOVA robot pool cleaner is a ramp that the robot can use to climb out of the pool.
This is particularly useful because robot pool cleaners usually stop at the bottom of the pool when the cycle is complete.
And when it’s time to haul them out, the units are quite heavy because they are full of water.
But with the ramp the robot could come to the surface and ride up out of the pool and onto its charging plate.
Another outdoor product we spotted at the booth was a smart sprinkler system that can keep track of water usage and work to a timer.
What we also saw on the stand was the robot vacuum that has feelings.
We’re talking about the new TactiPercept system that gives the robot vacuum a sense of touch.
It uses this along with visual recognition and a flexible cushioning structure to learn real-time pressure feedback that can detect any contact with furniture, walls, and other items.
We took a hands-on look at the robot and were able to lights the sensors just by pressing the front of the unit.
It is an all-new way for robots to see and connect with their environment rather than just relying on cameras and LiDAR.
