Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference keynote focused mainly on the new Siri AI and Apple Intelligence and didn’t spend much time talking about the new features coming for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Apple did mention a few top line features coming for iOS 27, iPadOS27, watchOS 27 and macOS 27 but there are many more that didn’t get any air time.
Here are the new features that didn’t make the keynote:
DRAW YOUR MESSAGE
One new feature of iOS 27 is the ability to handwrite a message or draw a picture and send it via iMessage. Users will be able to access the same drawing tools used in the Notes app.
SAVE VIDEO FRAME
With iOS 27, users will be able to view their videos and be able to select various frames to save as images. Even though there is a function to capture pictures while you’re shooting video, with this feature you can worry about your photos after the video has been shot.
ADD KEYWORD TO PHOTOS AND VIDEOS
Users will be able to label a photo or video in the Photos app to make it even easier to find in a search.
CARPLAY VIDEO PLAYBACK
Users will be able to watch videos through compatible apps on their vehicle screen but only when the vehicle is parked. This makes it ideal for those who want to watch something while they’re charging their EV or waiting to pick someone up.
FACETIME DUAL CAMERAS
With iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 users will be able to use both front and back cameras at the same time during a FaceTime call. This makes it easier for callers who are trying to share where they are while still being able to be seen by the person they are calling.
DUAL PHONE NUMBERS
iOS 27 will allow users to have the same phone number on two iPhones and switch between them when necessary. This will require telco support so unknown at this point if it will be available for Australian customers.
BETTER POWER EFFICIENCY WHEN HOTSPOTTING
Hot spotting your phone to get an internet connection for your laptop is a great feature but it tends to burn your iPhone battery even faster. With iOS 27 your personal hotspot will have less of an impact on your battery when using devices with the N1 chip.
BETTER SUPPORT FOR ULTRAWIDE MONITORS
The macOS 27 Golden Gate will offer support for ultra-wide displays running at up to 120Hz at 5K resolution. Great news for Mac Mini and Mac Studio users.
ALARM VOLUME
With iOS 27, users can separate their alarm volume from the general system volume. By turning the Match option off lets you select your volume for the alarm separate to that of the rest of your iPhone.
MAKE CUSTOM PASSES
With watchOS 27 users can create custom passes in the Wallet app. If your membership or card uses a QR code or a barcode you can set it up in Apple Watch so you can use it with a flick of your wrist.
