Apple has launched a new free app that gives sports lovers access to real-time scores, stats, and more. But for Australian fans of the NRL, AFL and cricket there is nothing to see here – yet.
Apple Sports is now available in more than 170 countries and regions, which now includes Australia.
But what’s missing are Australia’s favourite sports – Rugby League, Australian Rules and Cricket.
Apple Sports was released ahead of the soccer World Cup, one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
Other included sports include men’s and women’s tennis, PGA Golf, LPGA Golf, NHL, NBA, WNBA, NFL, Major League Baseball, NASCAR and Formula One.
In some of the team sports users can choose their favourite teams to see live scores on the home screen of the app and if you choose, on your iPhone lock screen or Apple Watch when a game is in progress.
It’s also possible for fans to add widgets to their iPhone, iPad, and MacBook home screens to make sure they are getting live updates and progress.
During the World Cup fans can easily jump from Apple Sports to the Apple TV app and find live matches on connecting streaming services during the tournament.
“The World Cup unites fans across the globe, making it the ideal moment to bring Apple Sports to even more users,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Music, Sports, Apple TV, and Beats.
“Apple Sports was designed to be fast and simple, giving fans an easy way to stay on top of scores, stats, and the action that matters most in real time.”
Here are the new features for the World Cup that are designed to keep users informed and engaged throughout the tournament:
– Tournament bracket view: The clean, scrollable view of matchups and results for each round allows fans to easily track a team’s progression from the group stage through their final match.
– Visual formations: Enhanced game cards feature visual formations for each team’s starting line-up to provide deeper tactical insight ahead of each match.
– One tap to Apple News: Apple News connects fans directly to comprehensive editorial coverage, including the latest headlines.
