Tech Guide has taken a hands on look at the new Reolink AI box and OMVI triple lens security camera at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The main new Reolink product launched at the show wasn’t a security camera – It was a small box that can fit in the palm of your hand.
But it’s not any old box – it’s the new Reolink AI Box which can integrate into existing Reolink cameras, home hubs and network video recorders to bring the latest in ReoNeura AI capabilities to previously non-AI devices.
It is a small device about the size of two decks of cards but it does bring a lot of features and power to a system.
On the Reolink stand at CES, the AI Box was connected to a series of cameras that were recording movement throughout the show.
One of the abilities of the AI box is its ability to deliver powerful AI computing to the devices on the local network.
The other benefit is receiving enhanced notifications and superior detection.
In the demonstration on the Reolink booth, we typed in “red shirt” into the search window of the AI box and seconds later there were pages and pages of clips that we could inspect.
And sure enough every clip included a person wearing a red shirt or red jacket.
It’s the same technology which can be used in the home to organise specific notifications.
Users may decide to receive notifications of people moving on their property when they are not home or asking for notifications if their car moves in their driveway.
These can be tailored to suit your needs without being overwhelming with nuisance notifications whether it’s in your home or your office.
The system understands actions and intent and can provide the relevant notifications that would tailor to that particular environment.
The other ability of the AI Box is analysing the captured clips and delegating various security levels from L1 which is normal activity all the way up to L4 which would be of serious concern.
And it does all of this without the need to add on a paid subscription.
“We’re really excited about our AI offering particularly the AI Box so if you’ve got a camera or an existing Reolink system you can put ReoNeura to work and then retrofit all your existing cameras as well,” Nick Nigro, Reolink’ s Vice President Sales, Australasia told Tech Guide in Las Vegas.
“So you can do smart search, you can send pre-emptive text messages as well and have the product more interactive.”
“You might want to say at the end of every week “tell me how many delivery trucks came to my house” and it will and you can get a notification to show all that as well.
“Not just show you but also count to do other things – it will make the make the product more sticky and more user friendly to the customer.”
And the great feature of the AI Box is that users you can also bring in their older cameras into the system and future proof them as well.
“We want to keep our existing customers satisfied and always keep developing for them,” Nigros said.
“One of the things we know about smart devices and smart cameras is that once you buy the camera there’s always new features a new development coming there as well so you’re not stuck with existing hardware, you can then improve that as well and the AI Box is just one example of that to turn your existing smart cameras into ultra smart cameras.”
Tech Guide also checked out the new Reolink OMVI Triple lens security camera – the flagship 24MP OMVI XI6 PoE.
Now this is a decent sized-camera – there’s a lot to fit in including the 24MP triple lens system which unites a 16MP dual lens panoramic camera with a 180-degree field of view and 8MP pan-tilt camera at the bottom that has up to 16x optical zoom.
Now with all those cameras and such a wide field of view you’re not going to miss a thing.
And the larger size is actually a good thing because it will be easy to spot in your home and will be a visual deterrent for potential intruders.
At the Reolink stand they had the connected to a large TV and it was tracking and zooming in on people – including me.
The camera is connected by PoE – short for power over Ethernet – so that means the Ethernet cable can not only connect it to the internet but also deliver power as well – two birds – one stone.
The Reolink AI Box and Reolink OMVI 24MP OMVI XI6 PoE will go on sale in Australia in the coming months.
