We love our coffee and we love our tech and we were able to combine those passions when we took a look at the Nespresso Lattissima Touch – one of the most feature-packed machines on offer.
The machine has quite a small footprint – it’s only about 17cm wide and 31cm long – so it’s not going to hog your kitchen bench space.
It’s also available in three colours – Glam Red, Glam White and Glam Black.
The Nespresso Lattissima Touch is made by Delonghi and gets its name from the bank of touch controls on top of the unit which are shortcuts to a number of recipes and combinations.
This machine is aimed at users who enjoy their coffee with milk.
It can still produce straight coffee drinks but with the attached RCS (rapid cappuccino system) it can also add heated and frothed milk to the brew automatically as well.
The RCS attaches to the front of the machine with a spout directing the milk into the cup.
Of course, the Delonghi Lattissima Touch takes the Nespresso coffee capsules and the many capsule clones you’ll now find on your supermarket shelves.
The water reservoir fits neatly at the back of the unit and the length of the power cord can be adjusted so it can be neatly set up in your kitchen.
The six touch buttons on top offers users a combination of coffee-only, coffee and milk and just milk so there’s plenty of choices on how you love your coffee and how you want to make it.
You can easily choose your coffee – ristretto, espresso or lungo – and your milk quantity as well.
The RCS also has some controls of its own including a knob to control the frothiness of the milk.
If there is milk left in the canister you can store the whole unit in the fridge.
And when you’ve finished your coffee there is also a cleaning control that, when held for 15 seconds, pushes hot water and steam through the unit to clean it.
The RCS can also be easily disassembled and cleaned manually.
What users will notice with the Lattissima Touch is the speed. Pre-heating times for the coffee and the milk have been greatly improved so you can make your coffee even quicker.
But one thing we found was the coffee was not quite as hot as we liked it.
There were two solutions offered in the Nespresso machine’s manual. Either pre-heat the cup or descale the machine.
Now considering the machine was brand new the descale option wasn’t required.
To preheat the cup, we ran the machine without a capsule in it so only hot water flowed into it.
Once we’d done that we emptied the hot water and then made our coffee. That was a time consuming way around the problem.
What we did was pop the completed coffee into the microwave for 20 seconds.
But that’s just us – we like our coffee on the hotter side.
Others will probably like it just the way the Nespresso Lattissima Machine makes it.
The Nespresso Lattissima Touch by Delonghi is a fast and convenient way to make coffee just the way you like it. But at $649 – that convenience comes at a price.
It doesn’t take up much space and is an attractive unit for those users who are fussy about the appliances they’ll put in their kitchen.
