Telstra launches affordable 8-inch Alcatel family tablet


Who said you have to spend big money to buy a tablet? Certainly not Alcatel which has just released the Telstra Essential 8-inch 4G Tab – one of the first to be powered by Android Oreo Go Edition.

Priced at just $129, the device has a 1280 x 800 resolution 8-inch display which is capable of displaying more than 16 million colours.

The Telstra Essential 8-inch 4G Tab, created by Alcatel, is just 8.29mm thick and weighs a mere 279g.

It is powered by a MediaTek MT8765 quad core 1.28Ghz processor with 16GB of onboard memory which is expandable through a microSD card slot.

The 8-inch Tab also has 4G connectivity and is capable of making voice calls as well as surfing the Internet and accessing apps anywhere.

The Android Oreo (8.1) Go Edition combined with the onboard quad core chipset, provides a slick and smooth user experience.

Also included is Google Lens – an image recognition app that uses AI to help discover more about the world around them.

Users can simply aim the camera at an object or landmark and Google Lens will identify it and provide relevant information.

The device is an ideal and affordable solution for parents looking to provide their child with a tablet for their schools BYOD (bring your own device) programs.

The tablet also features Family Mode so parents can set parameters for app accessibility and usage time.

The Telstra Essential 8-inch 4G Tab powered by Alcatel even includes Eye Care mode which can reduce blue light and reduce eye strain.

On the security side it even has Face Unlock so you can unlock the device simply by looking at it.
