New Norton 360 internet security includes Dark Web monitoring to protect from identity theft

NortonLifeLock, one of the leaders when it comes to cyber safety, has announced an all-new feature – Dark Web Monitoring – which will help uncover identity threats for Australian customers.

Dark Web Monitoring will be included as part of Premium and Deluxe Norton 360 plans to offer an all-round solution for their online personal information and devices.

In the first six months of 2020 alone, Australian businesses reported more than 500 data breaches to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

And more than 61 per cent were the result of malicious and criminal attacks.

Data harvested from a criminal attack often ends up being traded on the Dark Web – a part of the internet not accessible with a regular browser.

The Dark Web provides cyber criminals with a virtual back lane to allow them to buy and sell stolen data which is mainly used for identity theft.

Recently the Australian government pledged $1.67 billion to fight cyber crime, including criminals using the Dark Web, as part of its Cyber Security Strategy.

The AIC (Australian Institute of Criminology) says the annual economic impact from identity theft is more than $2 billion.

The recent NortonLifeLock Cyber Security Insights Report revealed that one in five Australians have reported becoming a victim of identity theft.

One of the biggest fears among respondents was personal information being exposed as a result of a data breach.

The new Dark Web monitoring powered by NortonLifeLock leverages 15 years of experience in identity protection.

The solution is powered by AI and human technology to scan the Dark Web and private forums searching for customer information.

If it is discovered Norton 360 customers will be notified and advised on what they can do to protect their information.

“Cyber attacks are constantly evolving and becoming more sophisticated. The dark web adds another dimension to the online threats impacting Australians,” said Mark Gorrie, Senior Director, Asia Pacific, NortonLifeLock.

“One of the biggest risks of personal data being sold or traded on the dark web is identity theft.

“That’s why we’re excited to launch Dark Web Monitoring in Australia and New Zealand to provide our customers with technology designed to help keep them protected against these more sophisticated threats.

“The addition of Dark Web Monitoring Powered by LifeLock to our technology in identity protection expands on our cyber security offering to help our customers protect their information in all corners of the internet and limit damage that may occur.”

Dark Web Monitoring Powered by LifeLock can search for 120 personal identifiable information including email address, physical address, phone number, driver licence number, credit card or bank account numbers and gamer tags.

Norton 360 with Dark Web Monitoring Powered by LifeLock is available now in-stores and will be available online from 1 September.

Existing Norton 360 Premium and Deluxe customers will have their plans upgraded to include Dark Web Monitoring Powered by LifeLock for the rest of the subscription at no extra cost.
