Facebook introduces Trending to your newsfeed
Noticed anything different about your Facebook feed? A new section called Trending now highlights the most popular topics being shared by friends.
Trending is located to the right of your news feed and is personalised to include things you’re interested in.
Most of our friends like to share what’s happening to them or what they’ve found out whether it’s the Academy Award nominations or the latest results from the Australian Open tennis tournament.
Facebook will take these topics and hashtags and aggregate them to create a mini topic list which, at a glance, will allow users to see the most popular news being discussed.
Facebook Trending is similar to Twitter’s list of trending subjects.
In the past, Facebook has also adopted other similar features from Twitter including hashtags and verified accounts.
There will be three trending headlines displayed and if you click “see more”, the list will expand to eight topics.
Clicking on any of these topics will take users into that subject’s own newsfeed with posts that have been shared publicly along with relevant updates from Facebook Pages.
Trending currently being rolled out on the web in selected countries.
The feature will also soon be tested in the mobile version of Facebook.
