I’ve seen enough episodes of RBT to know most drivers on the show have no idea if they’re under the limit if they’ve had a drink and decide to hop in the car.
There are two ways you can know for sure.
The first is by getting pulled over and being tested by the police in a random breath test.
The second, and less risky way, is to test yourself with the Andatech GT that’s small enough to fit on a keyring.
Or to really be sure – you can also choose not to drink at all.
The Andatech GT is one of the world’s smallest breathalysers in the world.
The Andatech GT has a fuel cell sensor which offers 0.005 per cent BAC (blood alcohol concentration) accuracy compared to the device the police will use to test you roadside.
It will produce a highly accurate reading up to three decimal places
The Andatech GT measures just 67.8mm long, 51.5mm wide and 20.4mm thick – that puts it at about the same size as your car controller or garage door opener.
It weighs just 66g.
And the fact that it can be with you beside your car keys means it will be instantly accessible for those times when you need to check you’re OK to drive.
Too many people have adopted the “she’ll be right” attitude and got behind the wheel only to prove to be over the limit.
This could be after a night out or even the next morning when you could possibly still be over the limit.
In the case of a P-Plater – who needs to have a zero alcohol reading – this could mean the difference between driving and catching a bus or an Uber to get where they need to.
For all drivers this means a hefty fine, a period when you can’t drive and possibly even complete loss of your driver’s licence.
Or even worse still – injuring or killing yourself and others and damaging other vehicles and properties.
That’s how crucial that decision can be.
So having Andatech by your side is like an insurance policy to protect you from making a potentially fatal decision.
The device itself is a little marvel.
It’s hard to believe that something so small could be so accurate and responsive.
The Andatech GT comes with its own keyring but it can also fit on your existing keyring.
The device powers on instantly and requires a three-second warm up.
And after you blow into it – it can provide a reading in just one second.
Tech Guide tried this for ourselves at a recent dinner party with all three of my children – all in their 20s – were enjoying the meal and a drink.
I pulled each of them aside and asked whether they knew if they would be OK to drive.
They all had no idea if they would be right to get behind the wheel.
Each of them tested themselves with the Andatech GT and the results were quite different.
My two daughters are petite – like my wife – but my son is big and tall like me so you’d expect this to be another variable when it comes to seeing how they’ve been affected by alcohol.
Not surprisingly my daughters had higher readings than my son.
But they were below 0.05 – the legal limit – so they could drive with confidence knowing they had been tested with an accurate device.
The Andatech can only remember the previous reading – but you can always test yourself again which literally takes just a few seconds.
The unit comes with several straws that can be changed and cleaned for added hygiene.
On the battery side, the Andatech is powered by a single AAA battery.
The Andatech GT comes with a three-year warranty that can be extended to a lifetime guarantee.
To maintain its accuracy, the Andatech GT needs to be calibrated every six months. Andatech also has plans to ensure it your device is regularly updated and calibrated and delivered back to you in a timely manner.
The Andatech GT compact breathalyser is available now and is priced $289.
