HOW LONG WILL THE APPLE WATCH BATTERY REALLY LAST?
Apple CEO Tim Cook stated the Apple Watch had an “all-day” battery with up to 18 hours operation.
But according to Apple after a test conducted earlier this month, Apple Watch can last up to 48 hours when paired with an iPhone with five time checks – each lasting four seconds – five times per hour.
Apple Watch offers up to three hours of talk time and 6.5 hours of audio playback.
If the Apple Watch battery gets too low it will enter a Power Reserve mode so all it will do is tell the time. In this mode it could still run for up to 72 hours.
It will take two and a half hours to completely recharge Apple Watch. One and a half hours charge will get it to 80 per cent.
IS APPLE WATCH WATERPROOF?
The Apple Watch is not waterproof but it is splash and water resistant. This means you can wear it in the shower but you can’t go swimming with it.
Apple Watch has an IPX7 rating and submerging the device, according to the Apple website, is not recommended.
It can also be used in the rain, can handle sweat during exercise and you can wet it when you’re washing your hands.
HOW MANY APPS WILL THERE BE ON APPLE WATCH AT LAUNCH?
Plenty. Most of Apple’s own apps will run on Apple Watch from launch day along with a few popular apps like Twitter, Shazam, Instagram, Uber and WeChat.
But we did notice a few other familiar icons on the Apple Watch homescreen during the demonstration including Evernote, eBay, Flipboard, CNN and Strava.
We even noticed a Woolworths icon on the Apple Watch screen so we’re expecting an app that will make your shopping even easier in its supermarkets.
WILL ALL iPHONES WORK WITH APPLE WATCH?
No they won’t. The oldest iPhone that will work with Apple Watch is the iPhone 5 and it requires the latest iOS 8.2 update. So if you’ve got an iPhone 4 or 4S you’ll need to update your iPhone before you can even think about buying an Apple Watch.
WILL APPLE WATCH WORK WITHOUT AN iPHONE?
The Apple Watch’s connection to the outside world is the iPhone so any kind of notification and use of apps relies on the devices being paired.
If you take away the iPhone we imagine the device will be able to display the time and date so it will be just a watch and not a smartwatch.
IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCE IN FUNCTIONALITY BETWEEN A $499 APPLE WATCH AND A $21,000 APPLE WATCH?
No there is not. The features, hardware and software are the same across all models.
The difference in pricing is determined by the material each one is made of and the type and quality of the associated watch bands.
The 18-Karat gold Apple Watch is expensive because it is made from high quality gold – and not because it has any difference in the specs, shape or screen.
HOW DOES APPLE WATCH PAIR WITH THE iPHONE
When you update your iPhone to iOS 8.2 you’ll find an Apple Watch icon has been installed.
This will be how you pair the phone either by aiming the iPhone’s camera at the Apple Watch screen.
It can also be manually paired by tapping the “i” icon on the Apple Watch and match it’s name to the list of detected Apple Watches and displayed on the iPhone screen.
HOW DO YOU LOAD APPS ON APPLE WATCH?
The Apple Watch app that’s part of the iOS 8.2 update is not only the way to pair the iPhone to the watch but it is also the Apple Watch App Store.
This app store is just like the regular app store with apps sorted in categories and in featured areas.
The apps are downloaded and then installed on Apple Watch using the iPhone’s connection.
