When most of the major brands unveiled their 2026 TVs at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January they all had one thing in common – RGB technology. And now it’s Sony’s turn to reveal its version.
We’ve already seen Samsung’s Micro RGB, Hisense’s RGB MiniLED and LG’s Micro RGB evo TVs.
Now Sony is introducing True RGB for its 2026 line-up of TVs.
Like the other brands, Sony has replaced its white backlight and replaced it with tiny red, green and blue (RGB) cells.
The thinking behind this is so the TVs can produce light and colour at the same time.
The result is purer and brighter colour and greater contrast.
In Sony’s case it’s RGB LEDs are individually controlled to provide consistent colour in any light setting for all home environments.

This will be Sony’s brightest panel type with precision control to provide accurate and expanded colour reproduction and minimise colour distortion.
These new TVs will also provide the largest colour volume Sony has ever achieved.
At the heart of the True RGB TVs is Sony’s proprietary optical structure and precision backlight control, which is all driven through Sony’s new RGB backlight driver.
Sony says true RGB is the culmination of more than 20 years of innovation in LED control and evolved from RGB light sources that were introduced in the Qualia 005 back in 2004.
The company also launched its flagship backlight master drive technology in 2016.
But now combining the precision of individual RGB LEDs with the best features of both MiniLED and OLED. Sony can deliver improved picture quality that is consistently accurate with purer colour and high brightness.
Sony will introduce its first range of true RGB TVs in the coming months.
