WD’s My Book Pro external hard drive is a professional-grade storage solution

We entrust our important personal data and documents to external hard drives for back up so choosing a high quality storage solution like the WD My Book Pro is very important.

The device has two drive bays onboard and is designed for use by creative professionals and any other users who use lots of data.

The My Book Pro is WD’s fastest external drive and has two Thunderbolt 2 port and two USB 3.0 ports which are conveniently located on the front of the product so they can be used to charge and sync smartphones and tablets and other devices.

WD’s My Book Pro comes with two 7200RPM WD Black SATA drives with a capacity of up to 16TB.

In terms of data storage, the Thunderbolt 2 ports can provide up to a blistering 20Gb/s transfer rate which means you can transfer a full length HD movie in just 30 seconds along with thousands of pictures and songs in minutes.

This is four times faster than USB 2.0 and up to 12 times faster than FireWire.

For professional users that move a lot of data around, the My Book Pro is ideal.

Users can connect external Thunderbolt drives, media players, multiple 4K displays along with media capture and editing systems for creative flexibility.

These other devices can be daisy-chained from the second Thunderbolt 2 port so there’s no need for a hub or any other equipment to connect all of your devices and drives.

In terms of back up, the My Book Pro can be used as a straight back up – otherwise known as a RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) 0 where your data is stored across the full capacity of both drives.

It can also be set up as a RAID 1 which saves your data on one drive and replicates that data on the second drive for increased protection and back up or as JBOD (just a bunch of disks) so your computer views each drive separately.

My Book Pro is formatted put of the box for Mac computers and is compatible with Apple Time Machine automatic back up feature but it can be reformatted for Windows.

WDMyBookPro4

It can store entire photo and video libraries and even edit files directly off the drive when your computer’s space is limited.

Users can also manage the device with WD’s Drive Utilities software for running diagnostics and formatting the drive.

The WD My Book Pro is available in the following configurations:

WDBDTB0060JSL – 6TB – $999

WDBDTB0080JSL – 8TB – $1,299

WDBDTB0120JSL – 12TB – $1,699.
