The Electronics Entertainment Expo – known as E3 – has kicked off in Los Angeles and will showcase the blockbuster games heading our way in the months ahead.
E3 is the biggest gathering of the computer gaming industry which rivals the box office in terms of annual revenue.
Microsoft held its Xbox press conference outlining the future of the console and the line-up of exclusive games.
This was followed by the Sony PlayStation event that also provided an exciting update about what we can expect to be playing on the console.
Microsoft announced it will make the Xbox One console backwards compatible which means it will be able to play some of the older classic games.
Over at Sony, the big news was the expansion of PlayStation Vue – the internet TV service which will now be available to more users in the US. Whether it comes to Australia though is unknown.
But E3 is all about the games and here are the highlights of the show:
STAR WARS: BATTLEFRONT – XBOX ONE, PS4, PC
This is shaping up as one of the biggest titles of the year and will have Star Wars fans rejoicing. It plunges players into the classic battles of the saga and has a multiplayer mode that gamers will drool over.
UNCHARTED 4: A THIEF’S END – PS4
Nathan Drake is back one more time in Naughty Dog’s third-person adventure game that combines amazing action and lots of wisecracks.
HALO 5: GUARDIANS – XBOX ONE
The most successful Xbox franchise is back and this time the first-person shooter revolves around Spartan Locke who is given the assignment of locating Master Chief, humanity’s greatest hero, who has gone missing.
FINAL FANTASY 7 REMAKE – PS4
It’s not often you see a remake in the gaming world but Final Fantasy 7, which is nearly 20 years old, is a great choice.

FALLOUT 4 – XBOX ONE, PS4
Bethesda Games got a great reception and raised expectation levels through the roof when it unveiled more information and a new trailer for this post-apocalyptic adventure.
FIREWATCH – PS4
Firewatch is a first-person adventure game set in the wilderness and you have to find your way out while on a walkie-talkie to a female guide. Mystery ensues when the Firetower you’re supposed to be manning is now occupied by a stranger.
ASSASSIN’S CREED: SYNDICATE – XBOX ONE, PS4, PC
The hits just keep on coming with Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate where you choose to play one of a set of twins on the latest Dreadful Crimes mission.

THE DIVISION – XBOX ONE, PS4, PC
This is an open world game set in Manhattan that has been locked down into a quarantined military zone. Your mission is to infiltrate the Dark Zone and reveal the secret behind the shutdown.

CALL OF DUTY BLACK OPS III – XBOX ONE, PS4, PC
Set in the year 2065, Call of Duty Black Ops III picks up 40 years after the events the took place in the previous game and super soldiers have been developed to dominate the battlefield.
