Stan, the latest video-on-demand streaming service, will launch on Australia Day with unlimited access to TV shows and movies for $10 a month.
Users who sign up to the service, which is a joint venture between Nine Entertainment Co and Fairfax Media, will enjoy a 30-day free trial with access to the entire content library.
“We know there’s been some speculation around Stan’s launch date, and while we’ve had to keep it under wraps we’re really proud to be able to announce that Australia’s new streaming service will launch on Australia Day,” said Mike Sneesby, CEO of Stan.
And Stan showcasing its service with a highly-anticipated new show Better Call Saul – the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad – from February 9 fast-tracked from the US.
While viewers are waiting for that show to start, Stan will be only SVOD (subscription video on demand) service that is offering all five seasons of Breaking Bad.
In another Australian first, Stan will also present a special screening of the first two episodes of Golden-Globe winning show Transparent on Channel Nine on Tuesday January 27 at 10pm as a sneak peek with the entire season available first on Stan.
Other shows that can be viewed on Stan include Masters of Sex, Ray Donovan, Hannibal, Californication, The Good Wife, Sherlock, Top Gear and Doctor Who.
Australian programming will include Ja’mie Private School Girl, Redfern Now, Rake plus all seasons of Underbelly and Rake.
On the movie front, Stan will have the entire collection of the James Bond films, the latest Hobbit films, plus films series like Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Robocop, Rambo and Terminator.
Kids shows will include The Wiggles, Dora The Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants and iCarly.
All titles will available to stream instantly and will be available in full high definition on multiple platforms including TV, tablets, computers and smartphones.
Content can be streamed to smart TVs using with AirPlay to Apple TV and with Google’s Chromecast.
