Modern technology gives us many things.

Samsung reveals new Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge smartphones

Samsung has played its strongest hand in years after unveiling two new hero smartphones – a refined Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge which has a display that is curved on both sides.

Available globally from April 10, the devices are made of premium materials for an enhanced user experience.

Samsung has upped the ante in the design stakes and made a significant change to the look of the devices which have only only has slight alterations each year until now.

And nobody can complain the Galaxy smartphones feel plastic anymore – the S6 and S6 edge are made from metal and glass to offer a high quality look and feel.

They have more rounded edges and are also even thinner – 6.8mm (S6) and 7mm (S6 edge).

The Galaxy S6 has a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED quad-HD screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and 571ppi (pixels per inch).

The Galaxy S6 edge is the same size and resolution but the display has a curved edge on each side.

They also have the same powerful octa-core processor that’s made up of a quad 2.1Ghz and quad 1.5Ghz chip to deliver blistering performance.

Samsung introduced a curved edge on the Galaxy Note Edge last year which acted as a small secondary screen.

But the Galaxy S6 edge has a curve on both sides and also provides additional information.

One side is to display notifications and news without disturbing what’s happening on the main screen.

The other side is a short cut to your contacts which can be colour-coded to identify your favourites.

Another advantage of the S6 edge’s curved screen is the ability to see information, notifications and who’s calling you even when the device is turned face down on the table.

On the camera front each smartphone has a 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

And now you can get into camera mode even faster – in 0.7 seconds to be precise – with a double tap of the home key so you’ll never miss that moment.

The new Galaxy devices have also retained the fingerprint reader on the home button.

But this time, instead of having to run your finger or thumb along the key – which didn’t work very well – you can just touch the button to unlock the device in the same way as the iPhone.

Charging your battery is faster and easier than ever with the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge.

These new devices now support wireless charging and fully embedded with WPC and PMA certification so will work with any wireless pad that supports those standards.

The battery can also be charged a lot faster as well – 1.5 times faster than the Samsung Galaxy S5 as a matter of fact.

But what about those times when you’re about to head out the door and you’ve got hardly any charge left?

Now with the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge you can plug in the cable for 10 minutes and receive enough power to last about four hours.

Also new to the smartphones is Samsung Pay – a mobile payment system protected with your fingerprint that will be introduced in the second half of the year.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge will come in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage versions and in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, Blue Topaz (S6 only) and Green Emerald (S6 edge only).

They will be available globally from April 10.
