Casio has entered the smartwatch space with the WSD-F10 – a device that not only offers the smarts but a number of outdoor features and a rugged design which means you can take it anywhere.
Most of the smartphones on the market are too delicate to go anywhere near water or be worn on treks, mountain climbs or during other outdoor activities.
But with the Casio WSD-F10 smart outdoor watch, which was introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, that’s not an issue.
It’s water resistant to 50m and has military grade construction to handle drops, vibration and other demands of rugged use.
The display has a dual-layer structure with a monochrome LCD on one level and a colour LCD on the other.
The monochrome layer provides a continuous time display which is easily visible in bright sunlight with the colour display coming in to play when needed to display other information.
The device is running the Android Wear operating system and offers all of the regular notifications you’d receive from your smartphone.

But the Casio watch also has constantly displayed information to suit activities like trekking, cycling and fishing including speed, distance, elapsed time and changes in atmospheric pressure.
Users can also go a step further and set activity specific reminders like scheduled time notifications to know when the tide’s coming in or the opportune time to fish along with timing notifications so you know when to eat and rehydrate or when the sun’s about to go down.

There’s also a compass and an altimeter onboard.
The Casio WSD-F10 works with outdoor apps like ViewRanger, MyRadar and Runkeeper to put the information that’s important to you in an easy-to-view spot.

There are four colours in the WSD-F10 line-up – black, green, red and orange.
The Casio WSD-F10 will be available to purchase in April.
