Insta360 has just unveiled the Luna Ultra, a new flagship gimbal camera that has been created in partnership with Leica to combine pro-level image quality with three-axis stabilisation and creative tools in one small, easily portable device.
The Luna Ultra does look a lot like the DJI Osmo Pocket 4, which is popular among content creators.
It is priced at $1229.99 and available in Cosmic Black and Stellar White.
Luna Ultra has a 1-inch 8K main sensor and dual lenses: a main lens with a 20mm focal length and a telephoto lens with a 60mm focal length.
Also on board is a detachable OLED touch screen, along with AI-powered tracking so users can create smooth high-quality videos and photos anywhere.
The Luna Ultra has a Leica Summicron lens, which, when paired with the 1-inch 8K sensor, provides high-resolution video and photos. The second telephoto lens, with a 1/1.3-inch sensor, will offer five focal lengths with up to 12x zoom, including 6x lossless zoom.
“Luna Ultra marks Insta360’s arrival in the gimbal camera space, backed by the full strength of our imaging expertise,” says Max Richter, VP of Marketing and Co-Founder of Insta360.
“We believe this category is ready for a new standard, defined by smarter technology, stronger performance, and a more intuitive user experience.
“Luna reflects our vision for the future of gimbal imaging, built to help people capture what matters with greater ease, confidence, and authenticity.”
The Luna Ultra can shoot 8K 30fps with Dolby Vision and support for 10-bit I-Log capture, which offers greater colour information and post-production flexibility.
It has up to 14 stops of dynamic range, which allows the preservation of detail in the lighter and darker parts of the image.
On the photography side, the Luna Ultra can capture 37MP ultra photos and 200MP scenic panorama shots.
The Pure Video mode can help produce quality results in low light by reducing noise and improving brightness and detail up to 4K 60fps.
The Luna Ultra weighs 235g so it’s no more a burden to carry around than your smartphone.
The detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen makes it possible to monitor your shot remotely and control HD transmissions up to 20m away for added flexibility, creative angles and solo capture.
The three-axis stabilisation systems work in conjunction with the electronic image stabilisation to provide rock-solid, smooth footage even while you’re moving.
DeepTrack 5.0 also lets users lock on to subjects and track them accurately through features like Auto Tracking, Active Zoom Tracking, Group Tracking, and Smart Framing.
The result is your subject is in frame and in focus.
The Luna Ultra has a 1550 mAh battery which offers up to four hours of shooting.
And when it’s time to recharge, the fast charging gets you back to 80% in just 23 minutes.
There is built-in 47GB of storage, with support for up to 1TB via a micro-SD card.
Luna Ultra incorporates Leica colour profiles with a range of cinematic filters to give users a wide range of in-camera looks.
It has a built-in time code, which makes it possible to synchronise multiple cameras and supports editing in software, including Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro.
