Arlo Go 2 4G + Wi-Fi camera review – security and convenience anywhere

Arlo’s security cameras have always allowed us to keep an eye on our home or our business and now the Arlo Go 2 4G + Wi-Fi means we can take that convenience anywhere because the device can connect with a SIM card.

Places like building sites, remote properties, boat moorings and holiday houses are just some of the places customers would =like to monitor but that lack of a wi-fi network at those locations means a typical security camera can’t be used.

But the Arlo Go 2 isn’t your typical camera.

The Arlo Go 2 has room for a SIM card so it can connect to the cellular network and provide that connection when wi-fi isn’t available.

But the good news is the Arlo Go 2 can also use a wi-fi connection if it’s available.

And this just adds even more value to the product.

This means that the Arlo Go 2 can be set up like a regular wi-fi camera but in the event of a blackout or natural disaster that would shut down wi-fi, it can fall back on the cellular network to stay connected and still give you a view of what going at those times.

The Arlo Go 2 is slightly larger than a regular Arlo camera which means it has a larger swappable rechargeable battery which can last for months before needing a recharge.

Users can also purchase and connect an Arlo solar panel to the camera which means it will always be charged and always monitoring.

Naturally the Arlo Go 2 has a weather-resistant design so it can be positioned inside or out.

Set up is really easy through the Arlo app and can be configured like a regular Arlo camera – the only difference is its connectivity to the cellular network.

You’re able to see your cellular signal strength through the app as well.

One thing we noticed was we had to run some firmware updates which took longer than we expected but that could have been because of our cellular signal strength at that time.

The update was completed after about half an hour.

But we’ve had no issue accessing the live footage from where we placed our camera in the furthest corner of our property which is outside the range of our wi-fi network.

We mounted the camera so we were able to look towards the house rather than away from it like we do with our other cameras.

From here you can monitor in 1080p Full HD day and night so you can see the area you are monitoring clearly.

And that includes night-time thanks to the integrated spotlight and the colour night vision which makes it easier to identify people and vehicles that may be on your property.

It also has clear two-way audio so you can not only hear what’s going on but also speak to people directly in front of the camera with smartphone quality audio.

If you need to escalate things from the Arlo app, you can also trigger the siren or set it to go off automatically during an emergency or when movement is detected.

It can also record locally onto a micro-SD card as well as the cloud – users can choose one or both.

Through the app we were also able to format the SD card we installed in the camera in seconds.

Users get three free months of Arlo Smart – the cloud service that offers access to your footage for up to 30 days as well as smart notifications which can distinguish between a person, animal, vehicle or package.

The Arlo go to is also easy to manage even if you have more than one in different locations.

Apart from being able to name each camera so you can understand where it’s located, the camera also has its own GPS built in so you can actually see the cameras on a map.

This feature would also come in handy if a brazen thief decided to steal the camera.

Thanks to the GPS positioning you be able to give them a nice surprise when you turn up to reclaim your property.
