The Samsung Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo has come a long way from the washer-dryers of the past. This connected device can do a lot more than just wash and dry your clothes.
One thing you can’t miss about this unit is the size. It weighs a hefty 144kg and is an all-in-one 18.5kg washer and 10kg dryer.
One requirement is having the space and for our review we had to clear out the separate washer and dryer to make way for the Samsung Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo.
We put the unit at the far end of our laundry adjacent to the side door that leads to the backyard if we need to hang out any clothes on the line.
It has a nice minimal look that suits any type of decor.
This is a 21st century product with a large 7-inch colour touchscreen and wireless connectivity, smarts and computing power that would be thousands of times more powerful than what was used to land man on the moon.
So to wash and dry our clothes I think Samsung has got us covered but it doesn’t stop there.
This is not only a smart product that can tell when the loads are done but that can link with other devices on SmartThings including our Samsung TV and Samsung Family Hub fridge.
And with AI onboard – it takes all the guess work out of your washing and just works things out for you. That’s an attractive feature when time is short and we have busy schedules.
Laundry is not something you can just put off – it’s an essential task that has just been made a whole lot easier with the Samsung Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo.
In AI mode all you need to do is pile in the clothes and the machine will detect the weight, soil level and the type of fabrics in the load and then offer the most appropriate cycle to get the job done.
From here it also decides on the appropriate water level and the amount of detergent required as well.
In some cases this could take some time, we tended to opt for AI mode before we went to bed only to wake up to washed and dried clothes in the morning.
On the drying size, despite the machine’s size and strength, it is gentle on your clothes and uses an energy efficient inverter heat pump to finish the job.
The detergent and softeners go inside massive reservoirs stored out of sight behind a panel below the door so you don’t have to put anything but your clothes into the machine.
The auto dispense system does all the work here and can hold enough for nearly 50 washes.
And when it is time to refill a notification will come up on the screen or on your SmartThings-connected devices.
When the cycle is finished, the door opens automatically to air out the wash so if you forget to empty it – hard to miss that with the multiple notifications on our Galaxy smartphone, our Samsung TV and fridge – or when you’re not home to remove the clothes right away.
This means you’re not being greeted by a smelly load that’s been sitting there for hours.
AI Home also lets you monitor your energy consumption as well – a hot topic in these times where we’re watching our budgets and trying to save money.
This can also be displayed in the Smart Things app on your Samsung smartphone or other connected device like a Samsung smart TV or Samsung Family Hub.
The good news is that despite the size of the Samsung Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo it is remarkably energy efficient.
It has a 10-star energy rating and offers far greater efficiency than a conventional condenser dryer.
According to Samsung, the unit can save up to 60 per cent energy while washing and up to 20 per cent while drying.
It will also reveal the amount of water, detergent and softener that was used.
There are many cycles to choose from – so many – and you can opt to both wash and dry or just wash and just dry.
We went for the Super Speed Cycle which usually runs at about 37 minutes.
The fastest wash and dry cycle we could was see was an amazing 98 minutes when you tick the Dry function with the Super Speed Cycle.
This is OK is you don’t have any other loads and you want to remove not only washed clothes but also dried clothes as well.
Some may think that having the washer and dryer in one meant you can’t do multiple washes like you could with a separate machine.
But with the Samsung Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo with its 18.5kg capacity you can do much larger washes at once instead of multiple smaller washes.
That capacity is big enough to fit a King Size doona.
And how well does it clean?
Very well, thanks to Samsung’s Bubble Technology that can penetrate fabric and shift stubborn stains.
On the smart side, the Samsung Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo is remarkable.
Who would have ever though you could answer a phone call or your doorbell from the unit’s 7-inch display?
And there is also Bixby onboard do you can you talk to the machine.
For example, you can ask how long there is to go and it will tell you how many minutes left in the cycle.
Our only bug bear is the way the door opens – swinging to the left. With the machine against a wall and a sliding door on the right side we have to step into the corner of the room before we can open the door.
Not a deal breaker but if we could change the direction we would. Thankfully the door is high enough off the floor to protect our backs.
It comes with a 20-year warranty on the digital inverter motor.
The Samsung Bespoke AI Heat Pump Combo is available now for $5,499.
That’s not cheap but you are getting a top shelf washer and dryer in one unit and saving valuable laundry space in the process.
This is an investment in convenience and efficiency.
