The Ecovacs Deebot X5 Pro Omni has set a new standard for robot vacuums and mops. You be pleasantly surprised by how well it can clean your home and impressed by its remarkable efficiency.
Wow! Haven’t robot vacuum cleaners improved dramatically in recent years. And Ecovacs is leading the way with its new Deebot X5 Pro OMNI Robot Vacuum and Mop.
Tech Guide deployed this latest model in our home which is a mixture of tiled floors, carpeted rooms and rugs.
The Deebot X5 Pro Omni is designed to be a set and forget solution – and it’s latest features and capabilities make it even more independent.
You don’t have to touch the unit for weeks before you need to empty the dust bin and tip out the dirty water.
We set up the Deebot X5 Pro Omni in the corner of our living area which has enough space to locate the cleaning station and for the robot to make its way in and out.
The first journey after the set-up is to map your home to ensure the unit can find its way around in the most efficient manner.
The new robot has a whole new look and has shed the traditional circular design for a d-shape with a flat front panel.
The Deebot X5 Pro Omni has AINA 2.0 Intelligent Navigation onboard so, in combination with the onboard sensors, it can find its way around your home with ease and manage to get inside every small nook and cranny – even between the legs of tables, chairs and stools.
And being just 9.5cm tall, it can also get into places where you wouldn’t normally consider taking a vacuum like under beds, under furniture and under tables.
But it’s a mop too don’t forget – and it is smart enough to tell the difference and engage the proper mode depending on the surface it’s resting on.
The Deebot X5 Pro Omni is also smart enough to get its mops out of the way when it’s vacuuming your carpets.
In fact, it takes the mops up 15mm to keep things clean when the mop is not required – like on your carpets.
The companion app lets you see a map of your home – you can even name each room so you can tell the robot to go back and clean a spill in there.
From the app you can take manual control, send it back to the charging station and choose to have a standard or deep wash among many other things.
But what we like was how autonomous it was.
The Deebot X5 Pro Omni never ever got stuck anywhere like other inferior robots.
It can even climb to get into our laundry and powder room. It can scale thresholds and sliding door tracks up to a height of 2.2cm.
It has a remarkable ability to avoid obstacles like shoes, cables, toys and other junk.
It wasn’t that long ago when a stray sock or a loose cable was the robot vacuum’s kryptonite and put it out of action.
And with AI onboard, the Deebot X5 Pro Omni is smarter than ever and can even recognise stains and go back over those spots until it’s gone.
Users can track the progress of the robot on the map within the app and see how much of the house has been cleaned and how long it’s been out there.
The robot makes regular trips back to the station to empty its dustbin – it does this more often because we have a dog – a handsome Dalmatian named Logan – who has a habit of leaving his short white hairs on our chocolate carpet.
The all-in-one station is also a wonder.
It is where the robot returns to swap out the dirty water with clean water and where the rear mops are regularly washed at up to 70-degree to ensure cleanliness and hygiene.
More importantly, the quality of the clean is also next level. One question we are always asked is just how well can a robot vacuum clean?
The answer with this robot is remarkably well.
The Deebot X5 Pro Omni has a whopping 12,800Pa suction power as well as TrueEdge Adaptive Edge Mopping which can get to within 1mm proximity so more of your home is being cleaned.
We observed this firsthand when we saw the Deebot X5 Pro Omni edging around chair legs and stools.
And the rear mop pads also extend independently from the rear of the robot to reach into corners, edges and other tight spaces.
The robot applies just the right amount of water to mop the floor and we could make out the moist shine on the floor.
Marks on the floor were easily cleaned and it did a remarkable job on our tiles and on the carpet.
The only marks on the carpet you could see weren’t Logan’s short white hairs, but the trail left by the robot and its impressive suction.
And you won’t get any hair entanglement – this was the bane of previous robots.
With the new dual comb teeth array and anti-tangle roller brush with outward rotating angles bristles, hair becomes the least of your problems.
The other cool features include ability to look through the onboard camera while it’s cleaning.
This shows where in the house the robot is located – although you can see this on the map but it’s not as fun.
This camera view offers a unique floor level angle, but you can still see what your child or pet is up to.
We also loved the fact you can control Deebot X5 Pro Omni from your Apple Watch.
There is also voice control onboard with the Yiko Voice Assistant but it didn’t always work the first. With a great app and now Apple Watch control we found we weren’t needing to use our voice.
The Ecovacs Deebot X5 Pro Omni is available now and is priced at time of publication at $2,295 – down from the usual $2,499.
That’s not cheap but it also gives you your time back – and your time is valuable.
