We’ve reached a point where a robot vacuum like the new DEEBOT X8 Pro Omni can genuinely take over the cleaning duties in our homes and do such a fine job it will surprise you.
ECOVACS, the company behind the DEEBOT X8 Pro Omni and the market leader in service robotics, has invested a lot of time, money and energy improving the technology that powers these robots.
As a result, when someone asks us if a product like the X8 Pro Omni is any good – we can confidently tell them it’s great.
Over the years Tech Guide has seen this improvement which has gone from maintaining a level of cleanliness to actually getting in there and vacuuming and mopping to the level you would with a manual vacuum cleaner and mop.
We deployed the new DEEBOT X8 Pro Omni in the lower level of our two storey home which is mainly hard tiled floors with some carpet as well.
Set up took just minutes and that including positioning the Omni station where the robot charges, cleans the mop, uploads dust and debris and swaps dirty water with a clean water refill.
The Omni station has a relatively small footprint. We placed ours in the corner of our living room.
It’s a neat and well-designed unit so it won’t look out of place even in the most stylish home.
It only took a few minutes to link the Deebot X8 Pro Omni to our wireless network through the Ecovacs apps.
The first thing the robot needed to do was map our home.
It uses the numerous onboard sensors to look at the walls and the ceiling to create an accurate floorplan for it to follow and clean efficiently.
It would have been nice to share the previous maps that have been created of our home by earlier DEEBOT models but ECOVACS tells us the new units need to create their own maps to suit their size, shape and features. Fair enough.
You can see the map building in the app – and it’s quite accurate.
But it was time to get to work cleaning and the DEEBOT X8 Pro Omni set out vacuuming first and with its remarkable 18,000pa suction there was nothing that was left behind.
The carpets were also strongly vacuumed and, like when you use a regular stick vacuum, there were marks where the robot has cleaned.
It is even smart enough to distinguish between hard floors and carpets and adjust to the floor type.
And I have an extra indicator to tell exactly how well the carpets were cleaned – my Dalmatian Logan.
He doesn’t do the inspection but it’s his little white hairs he leaves behind on our chocolate-coloured carpets.
If I can’t see any white hairs, I know there has been a deep clean.
The new ZeroTangle 2.0 anti-tangle technology directs longer hairs to a V-shaped bristle where V-shaped comb teeth effortlessly untangles it.
So far into the clean we saw it was creating an efficient cleaning path but we did notice the robot was slightly louder than the DEEBOT X5 Pro Omni that we had used before.
Now on to the mopping and this is where the DEEBOT X8 Pro Omni has seen the most improvement.
Under the hood is the all-new OZMO Roller instant self-washing mopping technology with 16 water nozzles which continually refresh the mop with clean water after the dirty water is removed.
The Roller replaces the circular mop brushes and can clean a wider area in one sweep.
We saw a side by side comparison of the OZMO Roller with the circular mop pads and it was easy to see the difference.
This in combination with higher applied pressure means it offers a deeper and more consistent clean around your home.
At our place it made light work of the mopping of our large tile floor. Marks that would normally require me to get on the floor to clean manually was no match for the DEEBOT X8 Pro Omni.
What makes the clean even more thorough is the new Enhanced TruEdge 2.0 and TruEdge 3D Edge sensors which allows the mop to extend laterally from the robot to reach right into corners and the edges and not miss a spot.
The DEEBOT X8 Pro Omni is also intelligent enough to recognise areas of your floor that need a bit more attention and it will return and apply a deeper clean to rid stubborn stains and spills.
It provided a consistent clean with no streaking – all that was left was a sparkling floor.
The AIVI 3D 3.0 Omni-Approach technology does a great job recognising and avoiding obstacles and your furniture so it can deftly get into every part of your floor including tight spaces.
It will even mark the rooms where it found obstacles so you can remove it and send the robot back to clean the area it couldn’t reach.
At the Omni cleaning station it can wash the mop at up to 75-degrees Celsius and dry it again with hot air at 63-degrees Celsius.
The robot is automatically emptied of its debris into a larger bag inside the station and the dirty water is also channelled into a sealed tank and replaced with clean water.
You can easily tell the difference and it’s also impossible to place a tank in the wrong spot. It simply won’t fit.
With all that going on you can safely leave the DEEBOT X8 Pro Omni to its own devices for up to 90 days.
The companion app is extremely useful and puts you in the driver’s seat.
You can send the DEEBOT X8 Pro Omni out in Auto Clean mode or adjust the cleaning mode, suction power, water flow rate and cleaning speed.
And the robot is smart in every sense of the word.
With the new YIKO-GPT – it is powered by generative AI and has access to a LLM (large language model) so it can understand you when you talk to it.
It also responds to text messages within the app if you’re not in voice range or out of the house.
For example, you can tell it to start cleaning or go to a specific room to clean up a mess.
