Oppo unveils concept smartphone with a rollable OLED display
Oppo has unveiled a new X 2021 concept smartphone with a rollable OLED display at its annual INNO DAY 2020 via a virtual livestream which will allow users to easily adjust the size of the product’s screen to suit whatever they are doing.
In the closed position the X 2021 has a 6.7-inch display which can be extended to 7.4-inches just by pulling it open and giving users have more options to meet their productivity and entertainment needs.
The user can adjust the display depending on their needs whether it’s sending an email, checking social media, multitasking or watching video content on the go.
The concept handset includes a flexible display, structural stacking and proprietary Oppo technology.
These include a powertrain to enable the display to automatically retract and extend smoothly.
Oppo included two tiny custom-developed drive motors to ensure the display moves evenly whether it is being pushed or pulled.
There is also a 2-in-1 plate to support the screen and to stop it from collapsing inward.
Oppo developed this support technology that is made up of two support comb-like structures to offer consistent support no matter whether it has been extended or not.
For added display resilience the company also uses high strength screen laminate built with a unique extra strong steel that is only 0.1 millimetres thick at its thinnest point.
There is no release date for the Oppo X 2021 concept rollable smartphone but – going by its name, we may see it in market as early as 2021.
