Google has revealed the new and more affordable Pixel 9a smartphone which has a new sleeker design, an improved camera and the built in Gemini AI assistant.
It will be priced from $849 and will go on sale through Google’s retail partners in early April.
The device has a 6.3 inch Actua display and is housed in a tough metal frame with IP68 protection for water and dust resistance.
It has a more streamlined look with flat edges and the usually prominent camera bump is now mostly absorbed into the body of the device and housed inside a small dome.
Pixel 9a has a 48MP main camera and a 13MP ultra-wide camera to deliver remarkable images and videos.
On the front is a 13MP camera to capture your selfies.
And for the first time on a series phone, users can now access Macro Focus to get right up close with your images.
The device also has new photography features including Add Me which makes it possible for the photographer to add themselves to the group photo by merging a secondary shot with the main image.
And even in challenging lighting conditions, the Pixel 9a – thanks to Night Sight – can still come up with some amazing photos as well as giving you the capabilities of capturing shots of the night sky with the Astrophotography mode.
And on the editing side, Google AI comes in to play with Best Take so you can get the best group photo while Photo Blur does just as its name suggests and helps you fix blurry images.
The Google Pixel 9a also has Gemini AI assistant built in.
It can be accessed by pressing and holding the power button so you can start helping with your writing, creativity, planning and learning.
Gemini can work across several Google Apps including grabbing information from your Gmail and finding locations in Maps.
It also has Pixel Call Assist to make your calls even clearer and it will also screen unknown numbers so you can avoid spam calls and possible scams.
Pixel 9a will also receive software and security updates for seven years from the date of launch to make the device last even longer.
The device has a 5100 mAh battery capacity which offers more than 30 hours of battery life. It also supports wireless Qi charging.
The Google Pixel 9a is available in two memory variants 128GB and 256GB.
It will be priced at $849 (128GB) and $999 (256GB) and comes in four colours – Obsidian, Porcelain, Peony and Iris.
