Modern technology gives us many things.

Does having a bigger smartphone screen mean we use even more data?

Does the size of the screen on your smartphone have anything to do with how much data we’re using on the move? A new mobile analytics report from Citrix reveals some interesting stats.

According to the study, the larger the smartphone, the more data you’re likely to consume on your device.

iPhone 6 Plus (5.5-inch screen) users, for example, used twice as much data as iPhone 6 (4.7-inch screen) users and more than three times that of the iPhone 5S, according to Citrix.

The 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus – the first time Apple has ventured into “phablet” territory – has shown data usage patterns more in line with a tablet.

It is also something those shopping for a new device should take note of and choose a data plan that will suit the size of the smartphone they choose.

This data is also heartening for mobile operators as customers are moving towards larger screen devices and shifting from wi-fi usage to mobile networks.

The biggest driver of mobile data on mobile devices was video with sport as the most popular category.

And most of those sports videos were streamed live from an event.
