Are we in a reading slump? Research from Australia Reads shows one in four Australian adults have not read or listened to a book in the past 12 months but the same research shows we love listening to books.
One in three Aussies prefer listening to books than reading them and this has spurred Spotify to launch Audiobooks+ in Australia.
This allows Premium listeners to include recurring additional audiobook listening time to their current subscription for $15.99.
Spotify says its goal with audiobooks is to grow the publishing industry and create an enjoyable experience for book lovers with flexible plans to suit every type of reader.
Spotify Premium customers in the UK, Australia, NZ, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein will now be able to access two new add on subscriptions.
AUDIOBOOKS+
This is available to Premium individual subscribers along with Family and Duo plan managers and provides an additional 15 hours of listening each month for the existing base plan.
This is an attractive option for book lovers who want more audiobook time especially for fans of longer book titles.

AUDIOBOOKS+ FOR PLAN MEMBERS
Now additional members on Premium Family and Duo can access 15 hours of audio book listening per month through this recurring add on.
All plan managers need to do is request audiobook access from their plan manager who will be able to purchase the add-on on their behalf.
They can also buy a one-time 10 hour top up if they want more time to read before the monthly billing cycle comes around again.
These new plans will not only offer more flexibility for audiobook listening on Spotify but it will also expose the format to millions of new potential listeners worldwide.
Spotify says the goal is to help publishers and authors reach new listeners and grow revenue so they can boost the book industry around the world.
