DJI, best known for its camera drones, action cameras and wireless microphones, has just released the Osmo Mobile 8 – a smartphone gimbal that allows users to shoot cinematic quality content.
The DJI Osmo Mobile 8 has a 360-degree pan rotation and a comfortable grip for easy control and low-angle shooting capability.
The device has intelligent subject tracking which allows creators to keep people and even their pets in the frame.
And for the first time users with iPhones can also track their subject using Apple’s Dock Kit, Apple’s intelligent subject tracking technology which works through the native iPhone camera or any of the 200+ iOS applications compatible with Apple Dock Kit.
The DJI Mimo app for iOS and Android now enables ActiveTrack 7.0 which is DJI’s proprietary advanced tracking technology they can track people, pets and objects with DualLens Boost which means it uses a phone’s wide angle and telephoto lenses at the same time to keep the subject centred no matter how fast it moves or how crowded the scene.
Smart Capture can also detect multiple subjects and make it easy to switch between subjects even in a crowded and complicated environment.
The multi-functional module also offers eight levels of brightness and eight levels of colour temperature to create the desired effect and mood for the scene.
Also on board is a microphone receiver compatible with DJI Mic 3, DJ Mic 2 and DJ Mic Mini transmitters so you’re able to capture crystal clear sound and rocksteady videos at the same time.
The DJI Osmo mobile 8 can also be controlled using hand gestures to take photos, start or stop recording, activate tracking or adjust the composition.
For example, showing your palm can start or stop Intelligent Tracking while making the V gesture captures of photo or starts or stops a video recording.
The DJI Osmo Mobile 8 is the first generation to offer a pan axis that supports over 360-degree horizontal rotation which helps to capture smooth panoramic photos and videos from any angle.
It’s also possible to lock the gimbal onto moving subjects with intelligent tracking while the unlimited 360-degree rotation provides seamless footage.
The DJI Osmo Mobile 8 has DJI’s 7th generation three axis stabilisation technology which offers stability without compromising image and video quality.
Creators can also easily switch between the phone’s front and rear cameras with the gimbal.
Three presses on the gimbal’s trigger can rotate the phone’s rear camera to face the user to enable higher quality rear camera selfies.
Also integrated into the product is a tripod as well as a built-in extension rod which expands the field view and versatility.
The DJI Osmo Mobile 8 weighs just 370g and will run for up to 10 hours on a full charge and can even charge your phone while it’s in the cradle.
