Amazon has released its new range of Kindle e-reader devices to offer an improved reading experience with Australians set to devour more than three billion pages on the Kindles this summer.
Amazon is releasing four new and updated models including a new Kindle Paperwhite, a new entry-level Kindle, a reimagined Kindle Scribe and the first ever colour Kindle.
Reading has become a much more popular pastime since authors have embraced social media platforms like TikTok to promote their books.
Amazon says Australians are expected to read more than three billion pages on their Kindles including many BookTok recommendations like Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros, and A Court of Thorn and Roses by Sarah J Maas.
“Customers love Kindle and are reading on their devices more than ever, with Aussie Kindle customers each reading on average an impressive 25,000 pages a year,” said Patrick Walker, Amazon Devices Country Manager, Australia and New Zealand.
“With summer just around the corner we know reading will be at an all-time high, and our new Kindle line-up has something for everyone, no matter your reading style.
“We obsessed over every detail to deliver the best possible experience, and we know Aussies will be excited by new features such as 25 per cent faster page turns on the Kindle Paperwhite, a more dynamic and intuitive writing experience on the Kindle Scribe, and fun new colours across the range.”
KINDLE PAPERWHITE – FROM $299
The Kindle Paperwhite, the best-selling Kindle, is now faster than ever so you can scroll through your Kindle library and the Kindle store even faster.
The new Kindle paperwhite also offers 25 per cent faster page turns so you can get through your books even faster.
Under the larger 7-inch display is an oxide thin film transistor which offers a higher contrast than ever before so text and pictures leap off the screen.
This is the largest display ever seen on Kindle Paperwhite, but it is also the thinnest model ever produced.
Kindle Paperwhite comes in black, is waterproof and includes 16GB of storage which is enough room for thousands of books.
Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition has 32GB of storage, optional wireless charging and an auto-adjusting front light. It is available in Metallic Jade and Metallic Black and is priced at $329.
NEW ENTRY-LEVEL KINDLE – $199
Amazon is releasing a new entry-level model which weighs just 158g and is small enough to fit in your hand or carry in your pocket.
It still includes premium Kindle features including a 300ppi glare-free display, a higher contrast ratio, faster page turns add a 25 per cent brighter front light which is the same brightness as Kindle Paperwhite.
It is available in black and a new Matcha colour, includes 16GB storage and provides weeks of battery life on a single charge.
KINDLE SCRIBE – From $649
The latest Kindle Scribe is both a reader and a digital notebook.
It has a 10.2-inch display with new uniform white borders and the screen offers a paper like texture so it feels like you’re writing on a real sheet of paper.
The 300ppi text is sharp and clear when writing and reading while the premium pen delivers a nice balanced feel.
With Active Canvas, Kindle Scribe allows you to write notes directly in the book you’re reading which then become part of the page with the books text dynamically flowing around it even if you change the font style and size.
The new Kindle Scribe will be available from December 5 and comes in Tungsten and Metallic Jade.
KINDLE COLORSOFT
The Kindle Colorsoft is the first colour Kindle ever released and offers high contrast, the same fast page turns of the other models, an auto adjusting front light and similar weeks-long battery life.
The new colour display allows you to see the book covers in your library and within the Kindle store in full colour.
Readers can enjoy book photos and images in colour or add colour highlights as you’re reading.
The screen offers high contrast when viewing content in colour and black and white.
Kindle Colorsoft offers wireless charging and up to 8 weeks of battery life.
It is also waterproof so you can take it anywhere including the beach and the bath.
The Kindle Colorsoft will be released in Australia in 2025.
