The new DJI Mini 3 is a compact and light drone that’s perfect for first time fliers

DJI has just released the DJI Mini 3 – a more affordable sub-250g camera drone – which is small and light enough to be exempt from most drone regulations around the world.

Weighing just 249g, the DJI Mini 3 can (according to CASA – the Civil Aviation and Safety Authority) be flown within 5.5km of a controlled airspace like an airport.

And because it weighs less than 250g, the DJI Mini 3 drone doesn’t have to be registered.

There are similar regulations and policies in other parts of the world so you can legally fly without registration.

The DJI Mini 3, a cheaper version of the DJI Mini 3 Pro released earlier this year, can film 4K HDR video and capture stunning photos up to 48-megapixel with True Vertical Shooting so your content is ready to share on social media.

“DJI Mini 3 arrives as a welcome addition to our growing compact drone lineup,” said Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director at DJI.

“It follows in the footsteps of its sibling, Mini 3 Pro, and offers many of the same high-performance features as a worthy alternative option.

“We created Mini 3 to invite even more new users to take off for the first time, and we can’t wait to see the moments they create with it.”

The DJI Mini 3 fits in the palm of your hand when folded which makes it even easier to take on your next trip and next adventure.

You can capture 4K at up 30 frames per second in HDR (high dynamic range) so you’re getting true-to-life colours day and night.

The 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor and f/1.7 aperture offers greater image resolution, sharper depth of field and lower image noise even in low lighting and high contrast.

The onboard 4-in-1 pixel technology can create images between 12-megapixel and 48-megapixel in resolution.

True Vertical Shooting rotates the camera 90-degrees to shoot videos and images that are perfect to share on social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

DJI Mini 3 includes an Intelligent Flight Battery that can offer up to 38 minutes of flight time while Intelligent Flight Battery Plus can extend that to up to 51 minutes.

Your content can look pretty slick with Quickshots – pre-programmed flight and filming paths to take in your beautiful surroundings.

These include:

– Dronie: Aircraft flies back and up with the camera locked on the subject.

– Helix: Aircraft flies up and spirals around the subject.

– Rocket: Aircraft flies up with the camera facing down.

– Circle: Aircraft circles around the subject.

– Boomerang: Aircraft flies around the subject in an oval path, ascending as it flies away and descending as it returns.

And like the other DJI drones there are many intelligent functions that make it easier for first time pilots to take to the air including Auto Takeoff, return to home (RTH) which will bring drone automatically to its launch point.

RTH also works when the signal is lost or if the battery is running low.

Additional Features

– 180°, Wide, and Sphere panorama, with Sphere Panorama Viewer 2.0 in the DJI Fly app offering a 720° view to drag and zoom a Sphere panorama.

– QuickTransfer with max download speed of 25 MB/s

– Supports large-angle tilt to introduce more creative possibilities.

– Digital zoom at 2x in 4K/30fps, 4x in 1080p, and 2x in 12MP photo

Price and Availability

DJI Mini 3 is available in five configurations:

– DJI Mini 3 (Drone Only) does not include a remote controller or charger and is ideal for owners of existing DJI drones – $699.

– DJI Mini 3 includes the DJI RC-N1 Remote Controller – $829.

– DJI Mini 3 (DJI RC) includes the DJI RC Remote Controller – $1,019.

– DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo Plus includes the DJI RC-N1 Remote Controller, Shoulder Bag, Two-Way Charging Hub, and two extra Intelligent Flight Batteries Plus – $1,188.

– DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo Plus (DJI RC) includes the DJI RC Remote Controller, Shoulder Bag, Two-Way Charging Hub, and two extra Intelligent Flight Batteries Plus – $1,378.
