Apple has upgraded the iPad Pro with its next generation M2 chip to make the portable and versatile device even more powerful.
The new iPad pro – available in 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes – includes a new Apple Pencil Hover feature along with Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.
The new iPad Pro will go on sale on Wednesday October 26 and is priced from $1139 for the 11-inch model and from $1,899 for the 12-inch.
“The next-generation iPad Pro pushes the boundaries of what’s possible on iPad, bringing even more versatility, power, and portability to the ultimate iPad experience,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
“Powered by the M2 chip, the new iPad Pro features incredible performance and the most advanced technologies, including a next-level Apple Pencil hover experience, ProRes video capture, superfast wireless connectivity, and powerful iPadOS 16 features. There’s nothing else like it.”
Performance on the iPad Pro gets a massive boost with the M2 processor which offers industry-leading power efficiency and a unified memory architecture.
The M2 chip has an 8-core CPU and is up to 15 per cent faster than M1.
It has a 10 core GPU which delivers up to 35 per cent faster graphics performance while the 16-core neural engine can process 15.8 trillion operations per second, a 40 per cent improvement over the M1.
The new iPad Pro with the M2 chip includes 100GB/ss of unified memory bandwidth – that’s 50 per cent more than the previous iPad Pro and has support for up to 16GB of fast unified memory which is sure to satisfy even the most demanding users who are multitasking and working on the move.
iPad Pro with M2 will be able to power through demanding workflows whether it’s a photographer editing huge photo libraries, designers adjusting complex 3D objects, health care professionals taking advanced imaging analysis or gamers enjoying the very latest graphics-heavy games.
This power also extends to the new media engine and image signal processor so the advanced cameras can capture ProRes video for the first time and transcode ProRes footage up to 3x faster.
This means content creators able to capture edit and publish cinema-grade video from one device on the go.
The new iPad Pro running iPadOS 16 has introduced a new feature – Hover with Apple Pencil.
This provides an all-new way for users to interact with the screen with the Apple Pencil detected up to 12mm above the display so users can see a preview of their mark even before they make it.
It will also allow customers to sketch and illustrate with even more precision.
On the connectivity side, the new iPad Pro will boast the fastest Wi-Fi connection of any Apple device with support for Wi-Fi 6E which offers downloads up to 2x faster than the previous wi-fi standard.
The Wi-Fi plus cellular models of the iPad Pro can now connect to the fastest 5G networks around the world using Sub6 and mmWave.
