Apple is reportedly working on a 30-inch iMac – which will be its largest all-in-one computer – according to the latest rumours about the company’s product roadmap.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a reliable source of Apple rumours, claims the company is in the early stages of development for a 30-inch iMac.
Apple has a 24-inch iMac in its current line-up powered by its own M1 chip.
It discontinued the Intel-based 27-inch iMac at the start of 2022 when it released the standalone Mac Studio and Studio Display.
Now if a customer wants a Mac with a 27-inch display they can either purchase a Mac Mini or a Mac Studio and pair them with the 27-inch Studio display (priced from $2,499) or a third party monitor.
The inclusion of 30-inch iMac running Apple silicone would fill a gap in the company’s product portfolio for customers who want a larger screen all-in-one Mac.
The current, and only, iMac is the 24-inch iMac which was released in April 2021. It was the first iMac to include Apple’s M1 silicon.
In fact, we are expecting Apple to update the iMac 24-inch with the more powerful M2 chip sometime this year.
The iMac is available in seven colours and designed to fit any part of your home.
The computer – which incorporates the display with the actual computer – is just 11.5mm thick.
The 30-inch iMac is not expected to materialise until next year at the earliest and it will be likely to include what will be Apple’s latest silicon at that time – the M3 chip.
In terms of pricing, a 30-inch iMac will be positioned somewhere between the 24-inch iMac and the Mac Studio and could start at $2,999.
The 24-inch iMac currently starts at $1,999 and the Mac Studio starts at $3,299 with monitor purchased separately.
The Mac Mini is the most affordable Mac in Apple’s line-up starting at $999 but it’s BYO monitor.
