Apple has released the second-generation of its popular AirPods wireless earphones which now offer the convenience of hands-free “Hey Siri” and a new wireless charging case.
The new AirPods include improved performance, faster connect times and longer talk time.
AirPods are now available with the standard charging case or the new wireless charging case which can be charged on the go using any Qi-compatible charging mat.
The new H1 chip includes custom audio architecture to create an improved audio experience along with easier and faster synchronisation.
The new AirPods, which look identical to the first gen AirPods, deliver up to 50 per cent more talk time than the first generation AirPods.
It’s now even easier to seamlessly switch between devices while listening to music on iPhone, Apple Watch or iPad with the new AirPods connecting twice as fast.
And for the first time users can access Siri hands free to change songs, make a call, or get directions adjust the volume.
All they need to say, like with their iPhone and Apple Watch, is say “Hey Siri”.
The AirPods can be purchased with the standard charging case or the new wireless charging case which both provide more than 24 hours of total listening time.
Customers who already own a pair of AirPods can purchase the stand-alone wireless charging case.
Apple is yet to release its AirPower charging mat, unveiled with the iPhone X in 2017, which is capable of charging the iPhone, Apple Watch and the AirPods wireless charging case.
Now that third product – the AirPods wireless charging case – has been released, we may see AirPower sooner rather than later.
The new AirPods and wireless charging case will be available in Apple stores next week.
AirPods with the standard charging case are priced at $249.
AirPods with the wireless charging case will be available for $319.
And customers can also purchase a standalone wireless charging case for the AirPods they already own for $129.
Another new offering for AirPods is adding a personal engraving to the AirPods no matter which type of charge in case you choose for free during checkout at apple.com/au or the Apple Store app.
