The Hisense C2 Ultra is a remarkable product which deserves praise for the quality it can produce and for its incredible versatility. If you want to enjoy a big screen experience with great sound that takes seconds to set up then the Hisense C2 Ultra 4K Trichroma Laser Mini Projector is the product for you.
Even if you’re new to projectors you can still enjoy a big screen experience in a matter of minutes with the impressive new Hisense C2 Ultra.
The Hisense C2 Ultra can project an image up to 300 inches and provide respectable audio quality to go with it.
Unlike a TV where you’re stuck with the size you bought, the Hisense C2 Ultra offers variety and versatility.
The C2 Ultra is designed to be used anywhere in your home wherever you want to have your movie night or watch the big match.
Its most attractive feature, apart from its obvious picture and audio quality, is the ease in which it can be set up in any room of your home and be ready to go in minutes without you hardly having to lift a finger.
Now that’s a far cry from a regular home theatre projector which is installed in one location and takes professional setup and calibration.
That’s not the case with this 4K laser mini projector which offers a remarkable 3000 ANSI lumens of brightness.
Under the hood is Hisense’s pure Triple Colour Laser system which can achieve 110% of the BT.2020 super wide colour space.
For our review we set up the Hisense C2 Ultra projector in our home theatre and aimed it at our 150 inch screen.
The unit displayed a test pattern and automatically adjusted the image to precisely fit the screen.
And this all happened before we had time to put the batteries into the remote or connect it to our wi-fi network.
If you’re aiming it at a wall, it can even detect the colour and adapt and optimise the image to suit.
After adjusting to our screen size it did the auto focus and I was able to breeze through the settings and start enjoying the content.
The Hisense C2 Ultra is smaller than the previous C1 model and now includes a swivel stand so it’s easy to point it in the right direction and tilt it up and down.
For our testing, we had the projector on stand that put it at the height of about 1m.
What was also impressive was the Hisense C2 Ultra was able to achieve that screen size sitting less than 4m metres from the screen.
And at that point, we hadn’t even looked at the zoom functionality which would have made the picture even larger without reducing image quality.
The C2 Ultra includes the VIDAA U operating system just like you would see on the Hisense TVs so you can access your favourite streaming services including Netflix, Disney+, Stan, Prime Video and other apps like YouTube and Foxtel.
The interface also recommends trending shows on all the popular streaming services so you could be watching content in an instant.
Right from the get-go three things really stood out for us.
The first is the brightness which, even in a bright room, would still be clear and watchable.
This is great news for the customer who wants to be able to watch their content in any room in the house at any time of the day or night.
The second thing was the picture quality.
The Hisense C2 Ultra is a 4K projector which showed us remarkable clarity, contrast and excellent black levels.
And with that brightness it gave the picture a real warmth while still maintaining excellent skin tones and natural colours.
It’s compatible with Dolby Vision and has IMAX Enhanced so you can enjoy content as the director intended using apps like Disney+ thanks to a dedicated IMAX HDR mode.
It can also support HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG.
The third thing that we liked was the audio quality.
There is a built-in 2.1 channel 10W JBL sound system with DTS Virtual X 3D surround sound which provides crisp audio and vocals so you can hear everything from the sound effects and voices to the explosions and the music.
It also has a 20W subwoofer built into the base.
There are also several viewing modes including Enhanced ACR which can boost the image and sound quality for all input sources.
If you’re watching a movie, you can put it into Theatre Mode which increases the surround sound effects and offers more bass response from the subwoofer built into the projectors base.
The audio quality is impressive considering it’s coming from the projector itself but it can get a little loud if you’re sitting closer to the projector.
It did offer some level of surround sound separation but it’s not in the same league as the audio you’d get from soundbar.
The built in subwoofer did a good job to punch up some scenes but, again, it couldn’t match the performance of a standalone subwoofer.
There’s nothing to stop you adding a sound bar and a subwoofer to the projector if you wanted to take the audio to another level.
But for the size and the price, the Hisense Ultra 2 punches well above its weight.
The Hisense C2 Ultra is available now and is priced at $4,499.
