Elgato EyeTV W lets you watch TV anywhere on your mobile device
Now you can watch TV on your smartphone or tablet anywhere with the release of the new Elgato EyeTV W that is like a mini digital set top box.
The EyeTV W is only slightly larger than a packet of Tic Tacs but can still provide digital free-to-air without the need to connect to the internet or the cellular network.
In other words – you’re not going to use any data to watch TV.
User can view Elgato EyeTV W on the move so you won’t have to miss a favourite TV show or sporting event.
It can also be used at home as a second TV so there will be no more fighting over the remote.
The EyeTV W comes with three antenna options that connect to the side of the device.
These include a small retractable aerial, an adaptor aerial plug to connect to a wall plug and an extension aerial with a longer cable.
The Elgato EyeTV W creates it own wireless hotspot so you can simply find the network in your device’s wi-fi settings and connect wirelessly to stream the TV signal.
Users have to download the EyeTV W companion app to watch TV on the go and simply scan for channels. Our set up took less than 10 minutes before we were watching live TV on our smartphone.
Once connected, users can pause and timeshift live TV, record the current show as well as access an EPG (electronic program guide) to plan your viewing.
And being digital TV, the picture and sound was crystal clear.
The EyeTV W can be up to 10 metres away from your mobile device and positioned near a window or on a shelf wherever you get the strongest signal.
There are no other external cables required as the EyeTV W has its own internal rechargeable battery that can last for up to four hours on a single charge.
Elgato’s EyeTV W works with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch running iOS 7.0.4 or later along with Android devices like Google’s Nexus devices, Samsung’s Galaxy Note, Galaxy S and Tab products along with the HTC One.
The Elgato EyeTV W is available now and is priced at $129.
