Live Connected is an online one-stop telco offering handsets on a range of plans to suit all kinds of users as well as BYO deals if you’ve already got a smartphone.
Tech Guide decided to test the service by ordering a brand new handset and choosing a plan.
If it’s a handset and/or a plan you’re after there are plenty of choices.
Powered by the Optus network, the plans are classed as S, M, L and XL with plan inclusions like talk, text and data components clearly displayed.
If you’re happy with your smartphone and it’s just a SIM you need, these plans are priced at $19 a month (S), $22 a month (M), $33 a month (L) and $45 a month (XL).

The $19 S plan has $500 talk and text which is enough for 210 standard two-minute calls and 1GB of data. SMS is charged at 30 cents per message.
Moving up to the $22 M plan there is $700 of talk and text value, unlimited SMS, unlimited calls to fellow Live Connected customers and 1.5GB of data.
In the $33 L plan you move up to $900 of talk and text, unlimited text and unlimited calls to Live Connected customers and 2GB of data.
For $45 a month on the XL plan it is unlimited talk and text and 3GB of data.
For Tech Guide’s testing of the Live Connected service, we wanted to buy a new handset on a plan.
The first step is to choose a handset. The choices are pretty impressive – Samsung Galaxy S III, HTC 8X, Nokia Lumia 920 and the Samsung Galaxy Note II.

The next step is to choose a plan that suits your needs and budget – S, M, L or XL – and that’s it.
Express delivery is arranged in less than a day. Even if you ordered your handset at 11pm it would still be sent to you the next business day.
For Tech Guide’s test of the service we were impressed that we received an email and a call to arrange a suitable delivery time.
When the product arrived – we ordered a Samsung Galaxy Note II on an $80 a month L plan – the SIM card was already installed in the handset with even a spare SIM card in case you lose the original.
The step-by-step instructions can talk users through the activation process and, if you’re not satisfied with the device, you can return it for a full refund.
Because Live Connected is an online store it can be easily accessed from anywhere. And once your plan begins users can also access their accounts and monitor their usage and view your itemised account.

And once you’re up and running you can also do things like change your plan, turn on international roaming and also name your service. That last option is handy if you’re managing a few accounts including accounts for your kids or staff.
There’s also an excellent Australian-based support system either online or on the phone which can log you in at a time that’s convenient to you instead of waiting on hold to speak to someone in an overseas call centre.
Live Connected is powered by the Optus and offers customers unfettered access to the network including 4G if your device is 4G compatible.
Users coming from another network or plan can also retain their number. And if you’re not sure about the Optus coverage in your area, Live Connected can even send you a free SIM card for you to try out for free for two days to check what sort of reception you’ll have.
Live Connected is all about service and making it as easy as possible for customers to get what they want and manage their service and they succeed on all counts.
