Fixes to the most common iOS 7 complaints

ios7hidden15iOS 7 has been a big change for iPhone and iPad users with a new look and features but here are some fixes for the most common complaints of the new operating system.

There have been many users who have downloaded and installed iOS 7 but are coming to grips with the changes.

Discussion boards and forums have been inundated with people complaining about the change and lamenting the loss of some of the older features.

Here’s a look at the most common iOS 7 complaints and the ways you can resolve them.

WHAT HAPPENED TO CALENDAR LIST VIEW

Calendar list view was one of the biggest complaints for power users who preferred a summary of their day rather than the traditional calendar view.

List view hasn’t gone anywhere on iOS 7 – it’s still there but, admittedly, a little harder to find.

To view the list view of your day, simply touch the magnifying glass symbol at the top of the screen.

Calendar List is still available in iOS 7

Calendar also appears in your Notification Centre which appears when you sweep down from the top of the screen.

Here you can see a list of your appointments and there is even a summary alerting you about traffic and your early starts.

MOTION IS MAKING ME SICK

There have been some complaints about the Parallax View, which gives the appearance of your icons floating above your wallpaper, is giving some people motion sickness.

The wallpaper can move behind the icons and allow users to almost look behind these icons.

If iOS 7 is making you sick you can turn the motion off

But if this is making you queasy it’s easy to shut off. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion

I CAN’T READ THE LIGHTER FONT

Part of the design of iOS 7 is a sleeker, lighter and more minimal look and this has also been applied to the font with some users saying it makes the type harder to read.

But don’t stress – there is a way to make all of the type bold in iOS 7. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Bold Text.

Can't read the lighter iOS 7 font? You can make it bold

Once this is activated you will get a warning that the phone has to restart before presenting the bolder on-screen text.

WHY DO MY CONTACT NAMES LOOK DIFFERENT

Looking through your messages and emails you may notice only the first name of the person that sent you that message is displayed.

This doesn’t suit every user as some may have a lot of Johns, Steves and Amys in their contact list.

You can make your contacts display normally in iOS 7

To revert to regular contact appearance go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Short Name and turn this to off.

HOW DO I CLOSE AN APP

Quitting an app on the older iOS operating systems was just a matter of double tapping the home key, seeing the open apps along the bottom of the screen and hitting the minus symbol to stop the app from running.

In iOS 7 it’s still the same action of double tapping the home button but it has an all-new appearance.

Double tap the home key on iOS 7 and you get this. Flick the app you want to close up and out

Now the whole screen is filled with the apps you’re using and you can move left or right to sort through the apps that are open.

Now to close an app, you have to flick it towards the top of the screen and it will disappear.

HOW DO I TURN OFF THE PASSCODE

As part of the iOS 7 installation users are asked to set a passcode.

You don't have to have a passcode with iOS 7

While this is ideal for security and can protect your information should your phone be lost or stolen, there are many who find it annoying and don’t want it. That’s their choice.

To turn off the passcode you need to go to Settings > General > Passcode Lock > type in your current passcode to get in > Passcode Off.
