LG X-Boom Freestyler FH6 review – the speaker that will be the life of the party

Most of the Bluetooth speakers we’ve seen are small enough fit in your hand but not the LG X-Boom Freestyler FH6. It’s a floorstanding Bluetooth speaker that packs a mighty punch with a mouth-watering 600W output.

This beast of a speaker system is not only big – it’s nearly a metre high – but it’s also pretty versatile as well with numerous features and multiple uses.

When I unboxed the FH6 speakers to start my review, it mesmerized my 19-year old son as if it was a shiny red Ferrari sitting in our driveway. And it hadn’t even been turned it on yet.

Of course playing your music is what the speakers are designed for and it does a great job of that via Bluetooth from your mobile device.

You can control the music from your device or with the included remote.

There are two 300W two-way speakers onboard and an 8-inch subwoofer for a total output of a bone-rattling 600W.

Users can set it up vertically or lay it down on its side in horizontal mode.

And even when you do this while music is playing, the device pauses for a second and adjusts the output to suit the orientation.

With the LG X-Boom Freestyler FH6 we expected a massive sound and we weren’t disappointed.

The audio quality was impressive with output favouring scale over detail but that’s exactly what this speaker is designed to do. It’s meant to sound just as good for a person 20 metres away as it does for those close by.

If it’s a more detailed and intimate sound you’re looking for then you need a smaller speaker. The LG FH6 is a party speaker and is meant to be enjoyed by many people.

You can pair up to three devices at once through the LG MusicFlow app so you and friends can take turns playing your favourite tracks through the LG X-Boom Freestyler FH6 speakers.

On top of the awesome sound, the speakers also put on a delightful light show.

Both speaker cones change colour and pulse in time with the music and a strip of LED lights between them also adds a nice finishing touch as well.

There are 64 different speaker driver light combinations that respond to the beat and can also be customised through an Android app.

We enjoyed playing our favourite music in a dark room with the speakers flashing.

And if you really want to expand the sound you can wirelessly link a second X-Boom Freestyler speaker to pump up the sound without delay or echo.

But there’s a lot more to the LG X-Boom Freestyler FH6 than that.

If you fancy yourself as a singer, you can even use the speakers as a karaoke machine. There are two mic inputs and a feature that removes the vocals from the music so you can belt out your own version of the song.

If that’s not enough and you want to show off your skills as a DJ, then the LG X-Boom Freestyler FH6 can also literally come to the party.

On top of the unit is a platter that allows you to get scratching like your spinning a vinyl record back and forth along with effects to pump up the treble and add other effects like a background drum beat.

There are plenty of combinations to explore to add life to the party. There’s even a sampler creator so you can capture sounds and work them into the music.

And to top things off, you can also use the LG X-Boom Freestyler FH6 as a soundbar for your TV and, if you have a compatible LG TV, it is a wireless connection. So now you can add real punch to your movies and games on your big screen.

VERDICT

The LG X-Boom Freestyler FH6 is an exciting speaker that delivers a big sound and enough functionality to make it the life of the party.
