Garmin has released the Fenix – the ultimate outdoor watch for sports and adventurers that packs in a GPS, altimeter, barometer and compass.
Unveiled in a co-ordinated world-wide announcement yesterday, the Garmin Fenix sports watch has been designed for hikers, kayakers, mountain climbers, cyclists, backpackers and anyone with an adventurous outdoor spirit.
The device has built-in sensors to provide information about your elevation, your heading and weather changes.
Throw in the Garmin GPS technology and the Fenix presents a complete solution for adventurers.
Among the many features is the ability mark up to 1000 waypoints which may be used to leave GPS bread crumbs back to the start of the trail or to mark a favourite fishing spot, a campsite or any other area you want to return to in the future.
Garmin’s Fenix also has the ability to connect wirelessly to other compatible Garmin devices to share information like waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches.
There’s also a three-axis electronic compass, along with an altimeter, barometer and thermometer which utilises the built-in GPS for even more accurate readings.
The Garmin Fenix is also a performance watch and can be used to track distance, pace, calories burned and even your heart rate with an add-on monitor.
It’s also waterproof to 50m and has a scratch-resistant display so it can handle the bumps and scrapes of your adventures.
Of course there’s also the basic watch functions like alarms, vibration alerts, stopwatch and world clock.
The Garmin Fenix will go on sale at the end of August for $449.
