If you really want to unleash your music then listening to the Beats Solo 2 Wireless headphones is a great way to do it with excellent sound and no cables to get in your way.
The headphones connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth and work within a 10-metre range so you can stay connected to your music – and any phone calls – while the device is still in your pocket or your bag.
Dr Dre knows a thing or two about creating excellent headphones and he brings that to the table with the Beats Solo 2 Wireless.
On the design front the headphones are not overly large with the nicely shaped ear cups big enough to just cover your ears.
The build quality is plain to see with a solid feel, gentle curves and no visible screws.
It is made from durable material so it can handle day-to-day use with ease.
The flexible and expandable headband, along with the pivoting leather-padded ear cups, allow for a comfortable fit for hours of listening.
On the outside of the left ear cup are all your controls to navigate your music, adjust the volume and even answer your calls.
There’s also a headphone jack so you can still listen to your music if the battery runs out while you’re out and about.
Over on the right side is the on/off button that also doubles as a battery checker.
A quick press when it’s turned on illuminates a series of indicator lights along the edge of the ear cup so you can easily see how much battery charge is left.
Users can also easily see the battery level at the top of their iPhone’s screen when it’s paired.
Also on the right ear cup is a microSD port to charge the onboard battery that can run for up to 12 hours.
On the audio side the Beats Solo 2 Wireless headphones really deliver.
You don’t get the bass heavy sound that we’ve heard with other Beats headphones.
This time out there’s a lot of subtlety with so much vivid detail you’ll hear every note and beat crisp and clean.
And there’s still bass – but it’s not delivered by the bucketload – it’s just right and plays its part nicely rather than taking over.
Whether you’re listening to classical music or rocking out to heavy metal and everything in between – the quality is easy to hear.
What helps maintain the high audio quality is the noise cancellation effect you get from the soft ear padding that block out most of the outside noise.
And when you’re done the Solo 2 Wireless headphones can fold down and be stored in the small case that’s included with the purchase.
The headphones are available in a number of colours – black, white, blue and red – and, because Apple now owns Beats, you can match your iPhone colour with gold, silver and space grey.
The Dr Dre Beats Solo 2 Wireless headphones ticks all the boxes when it comes to wireless freedom, design, build and audio quality.
While some may baulk at the $399.95 price tag, these headphones are one of those products where you’ll be thanking yourself later for spending the extra money.
