wn2500rpthumbNetgear has just released its Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender to make it easier to connect the many devices in your home to the internet.

The Netgear WN2500RP serves a few purposes – it can connect devices wirelessly to the internet, eliminate wi-fi dead spots in your home or office and offer dual 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wi-fi networks.

Set up is quite simple using WPS (wi-fi protected set-up) and allows a secure connection to an existing network without the need to type in a network name and a password.

Just press the WPS button on back of Netgear WN2500RP and the WPS on the router to connect the 2.4Ghz band.

If your router supports the 5Ghz band, simply repeat the above steps and the 5Ghz indicator will illuminate.

Having two bands allows users to prioritise connections like your gaming console to ensure a faster, more reliable connection.

The Netgear Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender

The device needs to be placed halfway between the router and the devices you’d like to connect.

There are also four ports on the back of the Netgear WN2500RP that allows devices to connect to the Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender and operate wirelessly.

For our testing we placed the WN2500RP near our flatscreen TV in our lounge room – about 15 metres from the router in our office.

Once set up near the TV we connected a cable from our Blu-ray player to the back of the Netgear device which was connects wirelessly back to our router and the internet.

This could also be used to connect smart TVs, gaming consoles, set top boxes with a cable.

And because the Netgear WN2500RP also has wi-fi it can also connect devices like laptops, tablets and smartphones to your network.

The Netgear Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender can cover your wi-fi deadspots in your home and connect all of your devices

We’re now using tablets in areas where we wouldn’t normally use a laptop like the backyard and other areas of the house.

And the Netgear Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender can be sure your network reaches these spots and keep you connected.

Also built-in to the Netgear device is FastLane Technology which provides high speed over a single band and enables maximum bandwidth for things like high definition video streaming and online gaming.

The Netgear Universal Dual Band Wi-Fi Range Extender WN2500RP is available now and priced at $149.
